Title: Why do my ears affect my vision ?
Post by: Quantumcat on 06/02/2004 15:01:02
Can someone tell me why it is that if I fold the top and bottom flap towards the ear hole thing so it sucks like a suction cap, then let go so it makes a faint sound like a suction cap, the image I see jumps to the side. Also nothing happens when I do it to my right ear, only my left. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that I don't have much hearing in my left ear but my right ear is normal? I don't know.

Quantum, are you bored or what?  Or do you just sit around and experiment with parts of your body to see what happens?  I can't answer.  My ears don't do that.  And I don't see all that stuff with my eyes either.  Are you sure you're from this planet?

I have been folding the flaps of both my ears for the last few minutes and I think I also get the 'suction cap' sound.......of course it could be the placebo effect......or it could be that you have discovered a super power, Spider Man uses his spider power to climb walls perhaps you can do the same with your left ear !!! :)

No but seriously, it's true, the picture jumps to the side slightly, and it doesn't happen to the right ear. Maybe I do experiment to see what happens, I don't know. It's something I've wondered for a while, like the lights that have lines of light coming out of them. I remember when I was little I wondered what the pins and needles thing was, I didn't know what it was and I didn't know everyone got it I thought I was just weird. I want to find an explanation for the jumping picture thing though. Also the thing where when you push on your eyes ball you see a grey spot that enlarges the more you press, on the opposite side of your field of vision to where you press, and always in the extremity of the field of vision, but I suppose that's because you can only press over the thing flap of skin around your eye without it hurting and that's the extremity ... so, yeah. I want an explanation [:)]

I was serious about the suction cap sound but admit I do not experience a picture jump. The eyeball thing I most definitely do experience.....depending on how much pressure I apply I go through a whole variety of differing colours, patterns and lights.....I hope you get an explanation.

That's another thing I want an explanation for!!!! Why is it that when you close your eyes, and press on them, you get a pain in your eyeball (well duh) but you get also swirling bright patterns of green and pink and silver?

Don't forget that there's a whopping great nerve behind your eye.... pushing on your eyeball pushes on that..? I wouldn’t push to hard [:D]

wOw the world spins?

I've had a connection between my left ear and my vision for about two years. Any louder sounds,  and especially the ringing sound I hear when calling someone else on the phone, causes the vision in both eyes to jump up and down. Clicking my tongue with my jaws closed also causes this to happen, along with a popping sound in the left ear. I always hear my own voice in the left ear too. The vision jumping thing is more pronounced when viewing bright or lighted objects straight ahead or to my left, such as oncoming traffic headlights, but not to the right. Some recent other health issues made the whole thing worse, and doctors are suggesting pressure against nerves from a brain abscess (or worse) as a possible cause! In last few years, I lost 50% hearing in that ear, too.
