It is! It's all happening behind the scenes. A new website is coming and with it that very function. Stay tuned!

What benefits do you see for SSL?

Last I heard TNS wasn't expecting people to pay to discuss?

What advantages does this have over a feature in my web browser that checks if the website is who it says it is?

SSL gives a sense of trust to users visiting a website. Strong encryption also provides additional security when you enter your username and password instead of transmitting clear text data. Thus SSL is becoming a standard on the Internet and websites are strongly encouraged to upgrade. I hope however that TNS remains free to use!

Since the question has been asked, I can answer that, since December 2016, the naked scientists website has been served over a SSL connection.
