Title: Why do some people get hay fever, and others don't?
Post by: katieHaylor on 07/07/2017 10:22:27
Jasmine asks:

As summer is the season when a lot of us, including myself, suffer really badly from hay fever, I was wondering if there is a reason why some of us are particularly susceptible to pollen compared to other people, and what factors dictate who suffers from hay fever?

What do you think?

It may well be that it was not the pollen that cause the initial problem. It could have been an infection that produced antibodies that also match for the pollen of certain plant species.

Can plant viruses that are dispersed via pollen be the triggers for antibodies in susceptible individuals?
