Silver certainly has quite potent anti-microbial properties, but its use is mainly outside the body where it is often employed in nanoparticle form on coated surfaces to reduce bacterial burden on surfaces where colonisation matters, like operating tables, door handles, fridges and food preparation surfaces.

It is effective, but toxic.
