Title: If all humans suddenly went vegan, would there be a chicken apocalypse?
Post by: wsktd7 on 09/12/2017 15:13:52
You have probably experienced people trying to convince you to adopt a "vegan" lifestyle - as in:
What if, one day, every single human on earth was suddenly convinced to follow these rules, immediately, and without exception?

According to some Internet sources I found, more than 50 billion chicken live on earth. Obviously, the vast majority of them were raised by non-vegans in order to harvest their unborn offspring (eggs) and/or their bodies for consumption.

Imagine the fate of those chicken, if out of a sudden, they are all set free to live and procreate as they like**, since the 100% vegan human population would no longer dare to steal their eggs or eat them (or "abuse" them by sterilization). I understand that a (modern industry-hatched) female chicken starts laying eggs at around 18 months of age, can reach the age of 15 years, and it takes about 21 days to hatch a clutch of up to 12 eggs.

Would the world in such a case be bound for a "Chicken Apocalypse", where after a short while, all resources are depleted by the masses of chicken roaming the earth?

* "any", for all "vegan lifestyle"-followers I heard from, seems to be restricted to some subset of Chordata that are considered sufficiently sizeable and cute. Tiny animals like microscopic Tactopoda seem to be exempt from vegan care, as are living creatures of whole kingdoms like Protista or Fungi, which are happily devoured, regardless of their size, by vegans.

** We should probably assume that in the 100% vegan world, other animals prone to a carnivore lifestyle are either separated or carefully fed with vegan substitution food in order to protect their potential prey - so free chicken would not have to fear being eaten by other animals.

Interesting thought! I think, if there were that many chickens roaming the Earth there'd be the fox equivalent of an all you can eat buffet...

Most chickens are in cages- not well placed to take over the earth.
If they all suddenly got out and started wandering round then many would get hit by  cars and lots would be eaten by animals that are not vegan- like dogs.

There wouldn't be a glut of chickens for long.

In many places natural predators would keep the population down.  However, in some places, there won't be any such check. Consider the island of Kauai. Some years ago a hurricane caused the escape of a chicken farm's stock.  These chickens settled in, reproduced, and now there are chickens all over the island.

The problem was solved about 4000 years ago. My aunt sagely observed, at one such feast "Jewish weddings were invented to stop chickens ruling the earth."

Turns out she wasn't joking! It seems that the earliest archaeological finds of roasted chicken bones in any substantial quantity, are in Israel.

So let the world rejoice for one night of music and dancing, then go vegan.

If all humans suddenly went vegan, it would be a short term fad, since it is not natural. As natural instincts kicks in the  result is the fad would end and the chickens will be eaten.

Humans are omnivores. This is based on natural selection since it maximizes survival in nature. Vegan is made possible because of science and the free market, not nature. In the winter, human plant based foods do not grow. Through the free market, we are able to obtain foods from all over the world at the same time, through grocery stores. This is manmade.

In the natural world, the vegans would need to migrate toward the equator to have year round food. Land with four seasons would not be a vegan stronghold, although they may migrate seasonally. Carnivores and omnivores can exist everywhere during any season.

This manmade natural illusion is common in culture. For example, transgender is artificial, but is sold as natural. In a natural setting you cannot make your body undergo metamorphosis into a different sex. It does not matter how much you wish to believe. Once you add science, technology and free market forces, you can create this illusion.

Even social science and engineering concerning human promiscuity is not natural. This is made possible by science and technology and free market. They have created medicines to counter the diseases that acting unnaturally bring.

And there you have it. Our ancestors were equatorial apes, principally vegetarian. We do not digest raw meat - or even supermarket carrion - efficiently and certainly do not have the necessary teeth and claws to kill any land animal worth eating. By its very nature farming is unnatural. The suggestion that we evolved through an aquatic hunting phase is intriguing but the evidence is weak. Fact is that the spread of homo sapiens from jungle to savannah and thence to the rest of the world is entirely due to technology.

Probably Yes, until balance is restored from natural causes by mother nature.
Its Fair to let Mother Nature decide their Fate, let's not play God. 👊

Rats & Cockroaches also trigger infestations, but We deal with their population explosion in a different manner.
Killing & Feasting on a living being just to keep its numbers under control seems a Barbaric view.

Its Difficult for a lot of Humans to Understand the Importance of going Vegan, they tend to think about personal benefits n choice preferences n rights/freedom to kill n eat whatever they wish.
Very few lay emphasis on Ethics & Morals by not weighing profits/loss n go ahead n do what is Just & Right.

IMAGINE you belong to a mixed animal breeds family of five members, including yourself.
Your father Mr Bull was slaughtered n almost skinned alive for leather boots, belts, wallets etc etc.
Your mother Mrs Cow was first forcefully milked/sulked off every drop of milk n then shoved through the beef n ham ripper machine.
Your younger/little brother Bee Jr was enthusiastically collecting a tiny drop of nectar each day since a year, but just in a matter of minutes all his hard work was stripped off n his honey forcefully looted.
Your little sister Miss Chimpanzee is accommodated in a small dirty smelly cage n dreams all day long about dense dark green jungles.
What's worse is kids add insult to her emotional injury everyday by staring at her n making faces n throwing peanuts n popcorns towards her as she sits glooming in a corner daydreaming of fresh ripe bananas.
You, Mrs Hen were forced into a caged brothel where some random Mr Cock did what he had to n disappeared.
Now every single day since almost a year you try conceiving a small little baby of your own, but before your kid could even attempt to try to break his/her egg shell n come out n yell "Happey Birthday to Mee" his/her unborn Soul is devoured by hungry monsters with devilish terms such as scrambled, whole or sunny side up.
Thankfully your own sorrowful pitiful life comes to an end one day when you're sold forcefully to a butcher.
The End.(not quite a happy ending, was it?)

A Carnivore hunts cause its biological system ain't meant to eat n survive on plain grass, which is completely understandable n totally acceptable.
What's your Excuse? 👎

We as a Species have Choices, why even stop at Veganism n massacre plants & trees n for how long rely on killing other biological organisms jus so that We could Live, why not Evolve & Transcend ourselves through TransHumanism? 👍

P.S. if the whole world eats sh1t it doesn't necessarily imply you have to eat it too, we all have a choice. surely all adults are mature enough n free to choose what they would like to put in their mouths, what to swallow n what to eat...but feeling proud & taking pride in being a shiteater    n cribbing n giving excuses to eat a loadful of sh1t...if that is your standards of morality n ethics, then so be it!
Growing Old is a Compulsion, Growing Up is always Optional.

Any/All negative replies to my comment/post are Welcome.

I would cordially like to invite cowboys, butchers, meat lovers and meat producers n distributors n multinationals.
Infact I would be more than Obliged to  answer/reply any query.

And for those who are confused n thinking of adopting a Vegan diet, Please go for it!
Why delay doing such a Noble Deed, I say.
I don't hate meat eaters, I just dislike meat eating.
I don't like raising my voice for animal rights, I love it.

Let's not wait for animals birds fishes n all creatures alike to form a Union n Revolt collectively against the Atrocities of our Species.

The day Mother Nature gets really fed up n yells " ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, NOW STOP! " would certainly be a dreadful judgement day for all of Us.

P.S. - We are the Only species on this Planet that Control the Numbers of every other species, Except Our Own.
Let's lay less emphasis on the term 'Human Beings' & strive towards 'Being Human'.
