If what the Associated Press has (https://youtu.be/x0K3mddsaRg?t=47s) is the sound in question, it ain't no crickets ...

It reminds me of (descending glissando) Shepard tones (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepard_tone), which people find annoying/distracting ...

Cicadas can be annoying - but if you grow up with the sound of them singing in the trees, you know what they are.

The Cuban sonic attack sounded like alien invaders surrounding the US embassy...
