   In "Ancient Inventions," hosted by Terry Jones, the narrator describes the method by which the ancient Chinese made birth control pills: they boiled a vat of urine from pregnant women, scraped off what was left over, added it to a paste, and cut and rolled it into pills. Now, it turns out that urine from pregnant women does contain progesterone (not too surprisingly), which is found in modern birth control pills. I suppose the critical question is: does enough/any progesterone survive this boiling process? I think someone should test this myth by boiling urine from a pregnant woman and analyzing the resulting salt deposit in the pot for the presence of progesterone. I've already posted it on the Mythbusters' website. I sure hope they test it. Thanks. BTW, love the show!

yeah i don't think i could make myself take medicine made out of pee. so if it's in anything i take now please don't tell me. lol

Yes, there is!  Unfortunately women take hormonal pills which take pee from PREGNANT horses!

Do you need estrogen/progesterone? Premarin/prempro are the ones most women take.  Do you take these or any throwbacks of these pills????

i don't know. it's called mircette... but that's the brand name. i don't even have the pack where it says what's in it. it's the only kind that doesn't give me migraines

Oh, that is a birth control medicine!  You scared me...but even birth control has side effects.....bless your heart!  Birth control have caused you migraines! I could not stand being on this form of control myself and it did not help regulate anything for me...but there are so many kinds out there now it is amazing!

yes i get migraines on some of them right after i start taking the sugar pill ones. my doctor said it's the sudden drop in whatever hormone is in it. this one has had me migraine free for four months now

I think the hormones in mircette are synthetic. I'm not sure the ones derived from horse pee are still on the market.
