Title: Hiccups
Post by: kdlynn on 19/05/2007 01:42:03
I'm going crazy! I've had the hiccups for two hours now. What exactly causes hiccups, and why do they hang around for so long?

I cannot remember but I think you have this funny flap down inside your esophagus of just above your stomach and I think that it becomes agitated and acts up weak or something.. I can't remember exactly!

Yikes did you drink lots of water? I have a child at school who gets them. the child fills his mouth with water then stands knees locked bent head all the way down between his legs, then he slowly begins to swallow his water! When he has swallowed it all in an upside down position, he slowly stands up.. LOL And oddly enough he know longer has the hiccups.. Try it..LOL It couldn't hurt! LOL!

sometimes the diaphragm becomes irritated. When this happens, it pulls down in a jerky way, which makes you suck air into your throat suddenly. When the air rushing in hits your voice box, you're left with a big hiccup.

Some things that irritate the diaphragm are eating too quickly or too much, an irritation in the stomach or the throat, or feeling nervous or excited. Seeing as you are about to go on a long flight, this could be making you nervous and excite! hence your hiccups.

Yeah I hate the fuzzy but you don't eat that part, you take a spoon and scoop them out of their skin! You can peel them sometimes they do not scoop as well as you would like them to!
