Title: UK's version of Watergate?
Post by: Pseudoscience-is-malarkey on 12/05/2020 01:17:06
Less than a year before his death, comedian Jack Benny was interviewed about his latest (and what would be his last) visit to the UK. It was early 1974 right in the middle of the Watergate Scandal here across the pond. While there, a reporter informed him about a very British scandal that was currently taking place, which I at first thought was a reference to the now largely discredited "plot against Harold Wilson". But no, he (Benny) went on about a scandal there involving men in high places (lords and politicians) who were using and operating a prostitution ring, I guess. There's no wikipedia article on it, just mentionings in the contemporary UK press. I guess it wasn't such a big deal. Is anyone familiar with it?

... a very British scandal...

"a very English scandal" is the name of the Jeremy Thorpe movie ... https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorpe_affair

If it was mid 60's, rather than mid 70's, a candidate is the Profumo affair ... https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Profumo_affair
