Title: What Is The Standard For Types Of Rodentia In Experiments ?
Post by: neilep on 03/08/2020 14:12:11
Whilst I personally do not condone animal experimentation I do accept it happens, so, How do Scientists Decide On The Types of Rodents And The condition Of Them For Experimentation ?

......................i.e age, gender,  the type of diet given etc ?  are mice better at solving a problem than a rat ? a squirrel ? a hamster ? etc

Mice breed faster than rats, and take up less space, so you could keep more mice in a lab than rats...

For many modern genetic experiments aimed at reproducing human conditions, genetically-engineered mice are used which have a human version of a protein, rather than their native mousey version. Since there are tens of thousands of human genes, many of which work together in partnership, you could imagine no end of customized mice investigating different conditions.
