Title: Why do flies, fly around lightbulbs?
Post by: paul.fr on 01/06/2007 22:59:13
Watching a couple of flies the other day, i noticed that they kepy circling a lightbulb. Why do they do this? Also, when they did land on the lightbulb why did they not(appear not to)burn or enev melt their little legs?

I am guessing they did not because the kept trying to land, and would not if their legs were burnt or melted.

They fly around lightbulbs because they can't fly through them!  [:I]

I was taught that many insect navigate by the sunlight or moonlight.  They get into trouble when they try to use a lightbulb that way.  Depending on their angle to the bulb, they will spiral away from it, circle around it or spiral into it.
