Title: Inner voice as Infrasound?
Post by: Kyobona on 20/12/2020 15:14:08
Hi there,

If you use your voicebox during inner speech, does that mean inner speech can be considered infrasound?

Infrasound is defined as sound which is too low in frequency to be audible.
- If your inner voice were infrasound, you wouldn't be able to hear your inner voice.
- Since human hearing is matched fairly well to the capabilities of the human voicebox, that also means that your voicebox cannot produce infrasound efficiently

More subtly, the information-carrying capacity of infrasound is lower than that of the main speech frequencies (300Hz - 3kHz).
- If you relied on infrasound for your thoughts, you would be thinking very slowly...
