I've heard that these toothpastes work by abrading the outer layer of the teeth. Is that true? If so, do they do damage by wearing away the enamel?
-
I have found that they make my teeth very sensitive to hot cold and air! LOL! Sounds stupid. but that has been my experience.. and I am no expert. If I stop using them for a week or so, my teeth become better able to deal with those things.
-
As you're female, I would've expected your teeth were used to hot air [:o)] *hides*

Doc, at least one well known brand of whitening toothpaste has been removed "from the shelves". I can not recall the exact reason why, but it was a dental health issue.
-
Yes, Doc, it is not great to use. I will call my friend who is a Dentist.
-
my uncle, who is a dentist also, recommended that i use a non whitening toothpaste. that may have just been because i used to have braces and he is constantly worried about the enamel on my teeth where my braces were. the orthodontist's assistant admitted after the braces had been cemented to my teeth that she "forgot" to put the protective coating stuff on my teeth. luckily, they are ok. they had to remove my braces very carefully.
-
I did not know that they adhered them to the teeth. I thought they were wired on somehow! LOL
-
oh yeah. it's like cement
-
my mouth has been through a lot...
-
but i've never had a cavity!

i meant the two surgeries and braces

I had a bout 4 cavities when I was very young. Thats it.. last visits have all been good. The doctor offered to give me a whitening tray , my teeth are old clean but still not as white as I would like.. I guess they have good products for doing your teeth!

I had 2 rows of teeth when I was 7. I had to have about 6 teeth out and a brace for a year. Then when I was 12, my canines came through too high, and I had huge buck teeth, so I had to have more teeth out and another brace for about 2 years. BUT - i have no fillings. (Or teeth).
-
i had nine adult teeth pulled and my wisdom teeth. my orthodontist and oral surgeon were talking about publishing a paper on my mouth. if that tells you anything...
-
Holy cow! Did you have a surfeit of teeth?
A friend of mine from when I was at college kept all of her childs milk teeth when they came out (better than before I suppose). Is it me, or is that just a bit wierd? [:-\]
-
no... that's the thing. i didn't have ANY extras. they said from what they can tell my mouth stopped growing when i was about 9 and none of the teeth fit right. they did an amazing job, considering the surgeon had to cut into the roof of my mouth to remove some. they were impacted because they had nowhere to grow. one had practically turned around and was heading for my sinus cavity
-
one that was removed was one of my canines. but they filed the other one so they match. you can't even tell! everything is lined up right and looks perfect now. i should see if i can get copies of my x rays from before any of the work and post them somehow
-
they even look painful

LOL LOL you are funny! My nephews teeth came in in two rows and the eye teeth in through the side... same kinda thing I think!

Oh, and then I had to have a wisdom tooth out (why are they called wisdom teeth anyway?) because it was compacting the teeth one side of my jaw. I had it out under local anaesthetic, and then went back to work in my part time job I had as a kid (my part time job wasn't being a kid, it was at a supermarket whilst I was a kid) and I remember someone asking me about fish-sauce. Have you ever tried saying "fish-sauce" with a numb mouth, missing teeth and a face-full of cotton-wool? pficshshcusch or something similar...BTW, do you know about - no hang on, how would you pronounce this:
GHOTI

lol... after my second surgery i followed my mom into the drug store and then thought i was lost. lol. i walked up to my mom and said where is mom? then i asked her if i was drunk. it was a weird day..
