Title: My toilet seat turned purple/blue when my pregnant wife sat on it. Why?
Post by: Lewis Thomson on 31/01/2022 10:12:54
Sean would like some help finding any solutions to this problem.

"My pregnant wife called me to inspect her usually white toilet seat which had turned a purple/blue hue after she had been sitting on it. She noted that she read up on it and it seems to be "a pregnancy thing". If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would not have believed it. So I took to Dr. Google and I saw it mentioned on a few pregnancy blogs but there was no real scientific answer for this reported phenomenon."

If you have any advice, leave it in the comments below...

Sounds like Pseudochromhidrosis. Something colourless in her sweat is being eaten by Corynebacterium or another bacteria or fungi and producing a pigment. It's not known to be unhealthy but nobody knows much about it. An antibiotic of some kind would wipe out the relevant organism if it's a problem say her clothes are changing color, although obviously you would need to be careful because she's pregnant. If it's just the toilet seat, clean the toilet seat with antibacterials or bleach(!)
