So far, the selling point on sending men to the red planet is weak. But what if?

I've volunteered for a one-way trip to Mars, and indeed had my calculations published, but not alone. Even had a couple of interested respondents.The natives might be ugly - why leave it to chance?

There are plenty of beautiful women on Earth, so the prospect of spending most of a year alone en route in the vague hope of meeting someone on a fairly hostile planet wouldn't be much of an incentive to leave home. It's really all about adventure and scientific discovery.
