Title: Would it be safe to travel on a plane in the current covid environment?
Post by: Lewis Thomson on 02/03/2022 13:27:28
Robina would like some advice on this situation.

"My husband is in about third stage COPD even though his breathing is not great he still mows the lawn, does physical work and can still walk quite a distance at a slowish pace (probably a mile or more) without stopping and has had 3 doses of the Covid vaccine, how safe do you think he would be to travel on a plane to Central America, also his blood oxygen levels are good, but I am wondering what is his Covid risk after those 3 doses due to his COPD."

The current vaccines do not provide good protection against Omicron strain, so it might be wise to wait until Omicron dies down in your part of the world.
- If one has reduced lung function, then it makes sense to take ongoing precautions like wearing a mask and avoiding crowded places. COVID infection (especially Delta strain) can result in further reduced lung function .
- Planes are pretty good at filtering and exchanging air - you are mostly at risk from people within 2 seats of you - forward, backwards and sideways.

Final advice: Don't get medical advice from a discussion board!
