Title: Pondering before the Big Bang?
Post by: Zer0 on 06/10/2022 15:07:12
Right at the moment of the Big Bang, it is said the Space & Time originated.

But what out of both of them came First?

Was Space created & then Time started ticking?

Or did Time tick first & then Space formed?

P.S. - Specifically placing this OP in Just Chat so that Responders can excercise their freedom of expressing in a wild imaginative way.
👻
(I'm open to suggestions mentioning that both Space & Time originated at the exact same Zeptosecond)

Your question is a bit misleading by incorporating "before". There can be no before the bb as that is when time started. There are no definitive answers as to the progress of time and space at an infinitesimal( eternal student will be horrified! ) time after t=0, as far as I know, in my limited knowledge.  PS Zero, you have been busy today!.

Right at the moment of the Big Bang, it is said the Space & Time originated.
The theory does not support them being different things. They're dimensions of spacetime, one thing, and right at the big bang event (not a moment), space dimensions were not yet distinct from time dimensions.

They're the same thing. There are alternate theories (theories in denial of Einstein's relativity theory) that posit them being separate things, with time being something that ticks, flows, progresses, whatever. But that's a different model than the big bang one. Such alternate views don't (cannot) support a big bang. It's more like a big bounce.

Under theory of relativity, neither space nor time cannot meaningfully exist without the other. Being the same thing is the best way to do that.

Thanks Hal, i was pretty much expecting a similar explanation.

I'm all good with the Space Time Continuum.
👍

No Paul i wasn't hinting to a Before the BB.
I understand it's meaningless & futile to ask that question.
I was hinting at right at the moment the BB happened.

It's odd it's stated as Thee Big Bang.
It was Big, but in comparison to What?
There was Nothing to compare it's size to.
Not sure how much of a Bang can be produced by primordial quantum soup, & Who was the Witness present with lending ears to hear it?

P.S. - Yeaa! i went on a sporadic rampage today answering queries which i had no clue off.
Good Observation Mr Cotter.
👍

I do it time n again.
It's a sort off a self propagated motto, to not leave any question unanswered or unresponded to on the Forum.

Imagine someone going thru registration & then figuring out how to post an OP, and then not receiving even a single response.
That's frustrating & disheartening.

I remember when i posted my first OP, i didn't receive a response for almost 2 days.
Had given up all hope, n then Bill S replied.
😁

We all somehow always tend to remember or not forget the First Ones in our lives, they are always kinda special, isn't it.

Yes indeed Zero, I hate to see a question with no answer. I too will often attempt to answer even if the subject is one I have little knowledge of.

If you are ever caught in a circular argument when pondering or pottering, have a drink then take the 313 bus from Potters Bar to Ponders End.

I used to be Optimistic about Politics before.

Then i stumbled in over here.

Then i read Alan's words on Politics.

& Now I'm a Pessimist to the Core!

P.S. - I'd highly recommend reading his past posts & quotes for some serious fun & frolic.
