Title: One unanswered question from my late-grandfather

I pose a conundrum to ya, a riddle if you will. After a long day of work at the funeral home my late grandfather joined me in watching the cartoon version of Lord of the Rings. He had a question about it that no one can answer, so maybe someone here can.

Grandpa: Is Mount Doom the only active volcano in that world? Surely there are other ones that are less dangerous and quicker to get to.

Nine-Year Old Me: What's an active volcano?

In answer to your grandpa, good fiction writers don't waste the reader's time with unnecessary detail - except, of course, in a whodunnit where confusion and irrelevance are necessary.

In answer to yourself - you will know one when you see one, and fortunately they are visible from a long way away.

The magic of the ring was bound up with mount doom. They have magic spell elves and orcs, precisely how serious do people take it? Fan ta see.

As for plot holes, how many badly thought out james bond executions are there?
