Title: Strange ads or am i misinterpreting?
Post by: paul cotter on 18/07/2023 21:22:44
I ignore all ads and delete where possible but this evening ~9pm I took notice. An ad for two 12guage shotgun cartridges appeared which I clicked on out of curiosity but came back "can't be displayed" or something similar. I don't think ammunition ads are appropriate. I don't own a gun and never have so it's not one of these ads that follow one based on previous search history. It seems to have disappeared now.

If you did own a gun, the advert would have been interesting, and as you don't, it was irrelevant rather than inappropriate. But it still throws up two interesting questions: if the ad was targeted, what algorithm aimed it at you, and if it wasn't, why "can't be displayed"?

Good morning, Alan. I should have explained: the " could not be displayed" is most likely on my end as I am using an antiquated computer with windows 7 os. I like to extract as much value as possible out of any product I buy before discarding it. It is however becoming a struggle to maintain adequate operation and a new laptop has been on the cards for quite some time, only to be held back by laziness.

The cannot be displayed is probably due to google safety checker, it rejects any terms that are relating to subjects that have been brought into question.
