Title: Why dont firefighters instead of shooting water fire dry ice bullets?
Post by: championoftruth on 23/10/2023 13:01:20
Why dont firefighters instead of spraying huge amounts of water fire dry ice pellets or bullets into the fire as the rapid carbon dioxide release will put out the fire from the expanding gas shock wave and oxygen displacement and starvation?

Because water is better and cheaper.

gas shock wave
What shock wave?

Rapid expansion of the ice bullet at minus 50 as it goes into a furnace of over 300 degrees. shock wave. see youtube guy THE ACTION MAN showing this LIVE !

Liquids are a lot easier to work with using the fire hydrant system. I'm not sure how you'd effectively modify it to transport dry ice in its place (also given it would need to keep it cold, a problem water doesn't have).

Why is there a "global warming" tag in this thread?

co2 dry ice is already transported by the ton. to concerts. to food storage. supermarkets.

you simply keep it cool. a cubic meter will go a long way. you simply fire bullets of dry ice into the room with the fire.

small bullets for small fires. longer bullets for larger fires.

co2 is all about global boiling so i thought i would gather my wef sponsored globalist approval.

Kryptid, as regards your question, all the excess co2 that the OP intends to use for firefighting will lead to an increase in global warming!

That just leads to lots of stuff about action  man.

Do you know that "shock wave" has a specific meaning in science?

a cubic meter will go a long way
A  cubic metre of water will go further in that it will expand to form a bigger vapour cloud.
The bulk density of dry ice pellets is about the same as water but the molar mass is a bit more than double.
The water will give a vapour cloud roughly 44/18 times bigger when they both evaporate.

Also
Dry Ice has a Latent Heat of Sublimation of ~590 J/g

The heat of vaporization of water is about 2,260 J/g
So the water does a roughly 3 fold better job of cooling.

Was there some reason why you didn't believe me when I said  this?

Because water is better and cheaper.

And we use CO2 for electrical fires anyway.

That just proves my point that you can use co2 to put fires.

i thank you sir for letting me win by default and vindicating me.

you can use co2 to put fires.
Nobody said you couldn't, did they?
The reason they don't use dry ice is still because water is better.
They use CO2 as a gas, not dry ice,.
They don't shoot bullets of it.

So you were still wrong on essentially every regard.
You weren't really vindicated, were you?

If water didn't conduct electricity, we'd use it for putting out electrical fires, because it doesn't blow away or suffocate the emergency service personnel.  All other fires generate plenty of CO2 anyway.

It's been updated to account for the way in which "halon" extinguishers work.
