Title: QotW - 25.09.19 - What determines when the leaves change colour?

This from Trent:

'The leaves are starting to change here in northern Canada, but they aren?t changing simultaneously. I will see a yellow leaf on a green branch, a yellow branch on a green tree, a yellow tree in a green stand and so on. Is this randomness primarily a function of the tree or of the weather?'
