From The Times online:-
Bristol, the Cotswolds and the M4-M5 corridor are likely to experience the worst of the rain this morning before the storms move towards Birmingham and some parts of the South East by late afternoon, according to the Met Office.
I live a stone's throw from the Cotswolds and half-hour's drive from Birmingham [:(]

Rain update.
It's been raining hard constantly most of the night & all morning. At Upton (4 miles from here) they had 1" of rain in 20 minutes. When Sandra got back from taking Calvin to school she said the road from here to Bloxham (Bloxham is only 1 mile away) was getting flooded already.
-
I concur that even here in the North Londonshire it has been non stop for hours...and we have it light !!...still...one day of sunshine and we'll have a hosepipe ban !!
-
You remember those photos I posted a couple of weeks back of the flooded fields? Well, we drove past there at about 11:30am and the water level of the river was roughly 6" below the banks. We came back at 12 and it was just starting to overflow. That means it has risen 6" in 30 minutes - and it's still raining hard. Methinks it'll be a lake again before much longer.
-
If you are able to take some photos then that would be moist welcome !
If you send them to you local paper they may publish them !

Wow Doc.
How much rain did you get before this happened? Because if the ground was already wet it wouldn't be that bad right? You don't want a Flash Flood. That would drown you for sure. We might have got a total of 2 inches and we normally get 10. LoL. They are expecting a 100% loss of corn this year. So no corn on the cob for anyone! LoL.
-
Schools here closed early today as there was a danger of flooding. However, it hasn't materialised after all. The rain has almost stopped before things got too bad.
It seems that most of the rain fell on the far side of the Cotswolds as to the west & north west of here it was a lot worse.
-
Schools?! Wow all year around over there? and Oh I see! That's pretty good ain't it?
-
Fortunate for us, yes.
-
Doc, you should have sent us the rain..Our corn crops are dieing..
-
I am glad it's stopping.

HAHA great band!! And since when do they make two string guitars? LoL. Even though they didn't make Bad to the Bone. LoL.
-
No, they didn't. But there have been a few songs based on that 1981 George Thorogood classic; most notably Motorhead with "You Better Swim" for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
"Bad To The Bone" itself was based on the Bo Diddley song "I'm A Man" (1955). "Whole Lotta Rosie" by AC/DC (1977) used the same riff.
-
I lied..I can only play the intro. LoL. IT was George Thurgood and teh Desytroyers.
Really? Thats cool!

Uh-uh. It was written by George Thorogood in 1981, produced by the Delaware Destroyers and released in 1982 under the name of George Thorogood & The Destroyers.
The Destroyers are:-
Billy Blough
Hank Carter
Michael Lenn (left the band in 1975)
Jeff Simon
George Thorogood
George Thurgood is a totally different beastie. His music is more jazz/classical with a bit of pop thrown in. He's now teaching at the Royal Conservatory on Toronto, Canada.
Feel free to apologise anytime you want. [:P]

SORRY..LoL.
-
so are you guys still above water?
-
SORRY..LoL.
Good lad [^]
so are you guys still above water?
Parts of mid & southern England got it pretty bad. A village was flooded with 1.5' of water no more than 10 miles from here but we got off pretty light.
-
NP lol..
Atleast the deer won't drown! LoL.
-
so are you guys still above water?
Update.
We didn't get off as light as I thought. Banbury High Street was a river because the Oxford canal, which runs through the town, overflowed. There are lots of houseboats on that canal and the owners are in a bit of a panic as they don't want to be washed onto the land.
2 of the main carparks, an entertainment complex & restaurant, and the bus station are closed due to flooding.
Those fields where we had the floods last time are much worse than before. The same canal runs alongside them and has burst its banks there also. There's so much water there that the course of the river is now impossible to discern. About 100yds of the road is under water (it's flowing rapidly too) and impassable. We had to turn around and go a different way.
-
That's probabaly because you guys are down river from the people that got the most rain right? It will go away soon if that is the reason.
-
Exactly.
-
YAY!? I was right for once..I'm going to have to write this down.

Please do not abuse the Beaver. He is busy in the shrubry trying to dam the Thames at Oxford, as well as all of the canals flowing from the Costwolds. The Idea is to back up enough water to drown Swinton and Seany with it.
It is a cooperative effort of E & B Enterprises - Principle Partners Pictured below

Doc,
Is the flooding in your area - Tweeksbury (?) Is without water and the Severn is rampaging. Are you OK?
-
I got a letter today, well postcard, from the Environment Agency. They are going to spend the next 3 weeks in my village assessing the flood defences.

Tewkesbury was hit pretty bad, but that's quite a way from here (about 40 miles, I think). But the thing is that it was drainage from the Cotswolds that caused it & they also drain in this direction.
The Cotswolds take 2-4 days to drain and it's estimated that some of the rivers won't peak until later today or tomorrow.
The Thames is in danger of overflowing too and that really would cause havoc.

Yikes... I am sorry everyone is getting hit so hard! Are you high enough to escape damage?

I know one Mensa member who lives in Evesham, and has 7 foot of water at present in her living room (although she had vacated the house before it got to that).
I was hearing that the Thames at Henley was certainly over its banks.

Wow Paul.. I am glad that you are the King... LOL Well I hope the castle is well and the villagers are ok!
I am 300 feet above the river so am always safe from flood waters! We just have to be careful of being trapped on top of the hill without supplies.. we would have to boat out with a bike to get to town as the river is at the bottom of the hill I live on!
-

The villagers are revolting, in more ways then one!
-
The reason i did twelve miles in two hours tonight was because of the rain !!.....though we have it easy in London....we have road closures and tonight expecially I saw an inordinate number of ambulances...and it was not because I drove past an Ambulance Station !!
People are being careless and there were many accidents !

I am shocked you did not already look! Hey do you have a sump pump in place in case the water under there gets out of hand?

She had plenty of warning, so I hope that most of the personal stuff she got out, but ofcourse there is always so much more you just cannot take with you, so you have to be selective. The last story I heard was that her upstairs was still safe, so although she has already evacuated the house, and hopefully moved the most valuable stuff away from the house, that hopefully even much of the rest of it is upstairs and maybe might yet remain safe. Nonetheless, it will take weeks of clean up afterwards.
-
Your right George either way it is devastating.. I remember after the 64 flood here when we were able to get back to the house everything was ruined.. there was terrible mold problems all the floors and walls were in a state of ruin.. It was horrible! It was a single story two bedroom with garage and there were 6 of us living in it! It was a mess.. Took my parents months to work on it room by room replacing and ripping out.. It was awful.. lost all the furniture mattresses tvs sofa's everything... I remember crying about my baby doll and some silly stuffed animal, whom I had left at home while we went on our trip! It was awful.. My mom was devastated she had worked so long and hard for everything trying to take care of us by herself and then everything was gone.. My Step dad was new on the seen just a few months in our lives then..cause my baby sister was about to be born..
I am sorry George I know that must be hard for your friend!
-
Several villages around here were badly flooded including 1 only a couple of miles away. Fortunately the village where I live is slightly higher and we had none.
I'm glad the stables and yard are on high ground too.
-
I am shocked you did not already look! Hey do you have a sump pump in place in case the water under there gets out of hand?
It's about six inches !!....that's less than I expected...but considering it was bone dry about 4 months ago it's still a considerable amount !
Have never needed a sump...there's still a good three feet in between the top of the water and the floor. We all have it in my street..I believe it's the natural water table height....besides.....looking at the 1898 ordinance survey map...my house is right in the middle of a lake !!..............and there is a lake less than a 100 yards away !

Does it hurt your foundation to have standing water under there? That might make me nervous.. What about mosquitos etc!
What do you call your Lake?
-
Why do they call it "standing water"? Water hasn't got any legs so how can it stand? [???]
-
Water that is still not moving just standing becoming stagnant. breeding ground for mosquitoes! That's why we always had a sump pump! No standing water less mosquitoes YAYYYYYYYYY!
