I walked about 7.5 miles yesterday and 7 miles today. [???]
I finished walking about 5 hours ago. My legs are reasonably OK; they feel like lead, but they're not aching. I had a bit of a ping in a tendon behind my left knee after about 4 miles today, but it didn't cause me any discomfort or hamper my walking.
My back, however, is a different matter. Under my shoulder blades & across the top of my pelvis were hurting like hell for the last couple of miles today &, I must admit, as a result I had to take a couple of short breaks to sit down.
The pelvic pain has more-or-less gone now - thanks to ODing on Paracetamol & Ibuprofen - but under my shoulder blades is still aching like crazy.
What really surprised me, though, was that despite my emphycema I didn't get too much out of breath even though the temperature was in the mid 20s C both days and about half of the walk was uphill. And I didn't have to use my Salbutamol (Salamol/Ventolin) inhaler even once. [:)]
I'm rather pleased with myself as I haven't walked more than about half a mile for 6 months or so.
But why is it that my back aches so much right across under my shoulder blades? Is that down to swinging my arms as I walk?

I later found out that the temperature on the 2nd day was 28-29C

That's chilly weather where I live.
Seriously though, 7 miles...WOW. I imagine your back was hurting. I walk 3 everyday, and for the longest time, I had back aches in the same place. I don't have them now, except when I miss a few days. How's the back now?

Fortunately it wasn't very humid.
Carolyn - I've been in much hotter than 82F. In northern Kenya it was regularly over 110F. But 82F is pretty good for England & when you're not used to it, it seems rather hot.

I remember you telling me about Kenya a while back. Don't think I'd want to visit there. We had a few days of 103 w/ a heat index of 110...I thought I was going to die! The 80's are pretty comfortable, but yes, when you're not used to it, it does seem toasty.

So thats about what 75 degrees. Arcata is about that on an average temperature. It is usually 80 or higher here but it is mixed. We get the lower temps too. Just depends! LOL
I like between 75 and 80.. thats about perfect!

Lucky. If we don't hit 93 there is something wrong.
