Title: How long can a virus stick to a library book?
Post by: Jessica H on 02/03/2010 15:02:43
My sister-in-law won't check out books from the library for her son since she fears they could cary viruses.  If a book sat on a shelf for a week or so, could a virus really survive that long?

When my boy had swine flu we read that the virus can survive 24 hours on hard surface and 48 hours of soft materials. I think that other viruses such as HIV can survive one hour only out of the body, so I would think a week is safe. During the scare of swine flu I would borrow books from the library and keep them for a day or two in the car - let the virus die. Hope this is of any help Yair
