Title: What theories describe the energy of gluons?

Is there any theory of gluon energy levels? I can find nothing on this subject.

What kind of energy are you talking about?

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluon the theoretical value of the rest energy of a gluon is zero (< 0.0002 eV/c2 experimental limit). The kinetic energy varies of course. My understanding is that guons are free particles so that there is no potential energy or binding energy to speak of.

I must have missed that because I looked at that wikipedia page. I hate gluons. I can see why the energy would be largely kinetic. It doesn't help. Thanks for pointing that out.

Well the information helps of course. It just doesn't fit with what I was thinking. I don't know enough yet. I always appreciate the help you give Pete so it is not about that.
