Title: Can a dental problem ever cause chest pain/ headaches?
Post by: Harry01 on 02/04/2020 06:44:00
Thanks to virus all appointments called off. Was having a left upper tooth reviewed. I've had these really unpleasant chest pains and felt exhausted generally. I'll leave out all the rest of my ailments but wondered what people think about relationships with some dental problem and causing symptoms in the body.

Thanks, Alan. I don't have a heart valve though.

Anything that can relate to a root canal/gingivitis. Else I can't explain these symptoms. :(

Everyone has heart valves. It's how the heart works. Seriously, talk to your dentist (you'll be unlikely to speak to a GP this week). If there's a hint of a problem he/she can prescribe antibiotics that you can order online. Endocarditis is not to be ignored.

Thanks Alan. When I discussed this possibility with the doctor several months ago he gave me the impression that it is something that happens with artificial heart valves. Maybe I misunderstood but I've been feeling much more tired than I am normally.

Thanks

Artificial valves might increase the risk of problems, but natural ones are not infallible either. If you have a heart murmur (even an innocent one) then there is an increased risk that bacteria to latch on to surfaces inside the heart.

Bacteria from your mouth can enter your bloodstream if your gums have open sores on them. https://www.webmd.com/oral-health/endocarditis-prevention#1

How do you start a new topic? Don't see it listed?

Click on a topic area (eg Physiology & Medicine). Should bring up a blue "New Topic" tab.
