General Science / Could lighter-than-air craft platforms lift vast amounts of water?
« on: 12/02/2013 17:48:06 »
Could lighter-than-air craft platforms in the oceans lift vast amounts of water high enough that they could then produce energy in the form of work?
The problem I see is in how to make the platforms come down without making it all counter-productive.
I think very light but strong materials may be developed in the future that allow these platforms to be vacuous, so they wouldn't need to be filled with a very light gas like helium.
But even though costs could make it prohibitive and it be a very inefficient concept, and unfortunately you would probably have to use energy from other source to make the platforms come down, which is a serious flaw in the concept.
What do you think? Is there something to this idea?

General Science / Could heart beat be used for big brother surveillance?
« on: 07/09/2012 16:45:23 »
I was thinking how of a good idea would be to use directional microphones to track people following their heart beat.
Each person heart beat must have a definite pattern in terms of sound and maybe that could be used to create a very pervasive surveillance system of all individuals, everywhere, all the time.
You may argue that vision is better suited. For that matter this might be what we would need:

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Would increasing marine algae combat climate change?
« on: 25/08/2012 21:45:06 »
I was thinking:
wouldn't it be great to maximize algae reproduction is the oceans so that there was more photosynthesis.
Thin layers of transparent plastic at the surface could be used to make them densify and reproduce more.
It would be quite modular thing and governments could finance such endeavour to depolute the air.

Any thoughts?

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Stars as dishes of different colours
« on: 04/05/2012 18:50:01 »
Hello,

I would like astronomy simulators to allow us to see stars as dishes of different colours: violet the closest star till red the most distant set of the set.
Also to be able to see the connection between stars with strings in 3D that would be changing colour along accordingly, as well as have all sorts of glamour and "little love" features that would have different meanings.
I call this new field: String Astronomy.

Please comment.

New Theories / Would this engine work? Free fall with valve mechanism to get it into the ocean
« on: 15/05/2011 19:48:25 »
Please have a look at my idea to use deep ocean water pressure to get energy.
It looks a bit like a perpetual motion machine.
The idea is that a ball would roll on down in a normal, open air, tunnel (TUNNEL A) and released in a tunnel (TUNNEL B)filled with water at the same pressure as the ocean at each level.
Tunnel B is just to make the ball come up straight and drive some mechanism to get energy. You could also get some energy out of the free fall.
So energy from the free fall down and from the lifting up.
I assume the balls would be slightly less dense than water at sea level.
Please have a look at my drawing:

General Science / Could there be some form of bacteria to desalinate sea water?
« on: 27/01/2011 19:22:23 »
I am writing some sci-fiction stuff and would like to know about the possibility of removing Na-Cl from seawater or somehow breaking it down to something else with the help of microorganisms. How possible is it?

General Science / What are plastic photovoltaics?
« on: 27/01/2011 08:27:25 »
A new technology that uses plastic solar panels that are cheap as well as flexible is set to light up everything, from buildings to bus shelters.

Plastic photovoltaics (PV) are cheaper, lighter and easier to install compared to the silicon solar panels and because of its pliability, it can be used almost everywhere.

General Science / Does deep ocean have potential energy due to pressure?

Is there potential energy in deep ocean or the energy is only there if you do work to put some object there?

General Science / Could we use discarded plastic bags to store and transport fresh water as ice?
« on: 16/01/2011 10:55:02 »
I was thinking - because we always end up with so many supermarket plastic bags - if it would make sense to send this discarded plastic bags to the North or South Pole so that someone there would put ice on it and close it very tight. This way, I'm not sure if sea water would destroy them but if not they could then be caught much later in the ocean and they had inside clean water...

Also we could make giant plastic bags with the same intent. To save clean water from ice.

General Science / Would this work to gain the value of work before it becomes public?
« on: 15/01/2011 20:49:21 »
I was thinking in something , is not quite php related, but I was thinking of an app that would encrypt a file (that file could be anything) and the author would create an encryption key giving an amount of money to be collected. It would become public and anyone could give as much money as wanted. when the needed amount was reached the file would be public to anyone (decrypted). does it make sense?

I am calling it "Distributed File Purchase Encryption" (DFPE)

New Theories / Will there be a worldwide single currency?
« on: 15/01/2011 04:24:25 »
The Holdbank Economy

1) You can only pay with card (individual card or card of a company)

2) Business bank accounts become portfolios and one company can have only one bank for its portfolio.
The bank is the owner of the company. Only banks can own companies or parts of it.

3) An individual can only have one individual bank account. His bank portfolio.
No more mess of accounts. Every transaction specifies GPS, Date and Time as well as scope of the product/service in terms of businesses/markets/economies...

4) Hold-iState is an institution that is regulated online. Anyone can and should be member and participate. This institution website lists the economical value of every single thing and displays its value in a universal currency (the hold-dollar) as well as the ratio that that represents regarding different markets.
It defines the needs for the markets and gives banks the percentages of money that is allowed to fund each market. Companies must trade under a specific market or submarket.

5) Companies are all owned by banks and banks are responsible to elect the executive directors boards for the companies in national assemblies. Banks, usually, can only invest in its economies/markets.

6) Members/citizens of the Hold-iState are responsible to set the businesses models for the companies that are owned by banks.

7) The profits of each company stay in the company. That means whoever in the company has access to the company money can use it within the scope of that business. No money from the company can be spent on other affairs or out of the scope of the business. The State enforces penalties for money of companies being spent out of the scope and logistics of the company.

8) Only money from salaries can be spent on anything whatsoever. People wealth is limited and regulated by the Hold-iState.

9) Only banks can buy in the stockmarket because all companies are owned by banks, only. And the listings of stock markets always use percentage values.

10) Bank assemblies can make decisions of companies based on the weight they own. Simple weighted vote.

Please search for my ideas. I'll post videos, in blogs, forums and am thinking in writing a book.
My model is called: "The Holdbank Economy"

General Science / What is the global spend on energy per hour?
« on: 15/01/2011 01:31:23 »
My Math calculations must be wrong or something.

The average worldwide consumption of energy is 15 terawatts (1.504*10^13 W)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_energy_resources_and_consumption

The total money worldwide (in dollars) is between $40 & 44 trillion...

Given that a KW/hour is roughly 10 cents, we spend 1.5 * 10^10 KW * 0.1= 1.5* 10^9 dollars!!! an hour.

     1.500.000.000$ an hour

44.000.000.000.000$

wow, the numbers are impressive!!!

General Science / Will this wind engine work?
« on: 14/01/2011 22:11:34 »
Hello,

I'm looking to hire someone to do me "Google Sketchup" model of some invention I might came up with.

This is an engine to collect wind energy.

It is quite simple. You have a balloon (actually a sphere, a very round ball...maybe up to 3,4 times the size of a human head...)
with a vertical stick! The balloon and stick will do any conical movements and oscillations as the wind
balances the light ball/balloon.

At the bottom, is the key for this engine. You have a dish on the horizontal but
this dish will follow the stick. That is, the stick is perpendicular
to the dish and the dish
will go down on accordingly to which direction the stick is moving in.

Then, you have a number of vertical air pumps (Im not sure if a better engine could be used)
I think six would be fine... not too few, not to much, so, a good distribution for a circumference.
(let me know what u think....) The pumps are pretty much like air
pumps used in bikes and they will pump air that can lift a weight or
something. Lifting a weight seems a good way to store energy. Better than batteries, I guess...
I find it crucial that somehow it is clearly shown how the compressed air created by the
pumps will be being used to store energy.

I'm not sure if it is a good idea that the pumps are linked or if each
should be separated and pressurizing air separately from the others.I think separated seems a better choice.

This is just a brief description. If needed I can draw something on
paper but I'm not sure if that would be a great help because I'm not a
great artist.

To sum up, a ball/balloon moves freely in the air constrained only by the vertical
stick that will "bend" the dish along as it is all a single piece all together.

I need to show very well the small air pumps in the model(as if they were bike pumps
or something). It has to be very clear how the pumps are so that you
really understand why they will force the air to become compressed or force weights to be
lifted.

Please let me know if you come up with anything better and/or if this
is clear enough. English in not my native We can talk on skype also (My skype username is "bicomplex").

I would like to have the greater detail in the pumps and the lifting of weights, because they are
crucial to my invention, but let me know what you think.

Best regards,
birdzoom
