I have found something of interest out and I am sure there is a correlation. As I have mentioned before, I have EMS (electro magnetic sensitivity) which I developed at the same time as POIS (late teens). So for me the discovery of anything contributing to beating that disorder would inevitably also help me clear up POIS. I recently discovered this video on youtube. It's called Beating Electrical Sensitivity and includes research done from nobel prize winning psychiatrist David R. Hawkins who talks about calibrating emotions and the effects it can have on our bodies. Love and peace coming at a number of 500-600 compared to feelings of despair and apathy coming it at 50-100. Lower callabrated feelings combined with existing tolerable levels of emf can develop into full blown sensitivities/auto immune disorders. The underlying cause also relates to toxins. Toxins being the underlying symptoms. It struck a chord with me because I remember in my late teens having feelings of deep apathy due to certain reasons at the time. I am no doctor or physicist but I definitely think there is credence there. He also mentions doing Tai Chi as away to re-balance your body on an energetic level as being part of the cure. A lot of the things he talks about refer to what we discuss regarding POIS. Interesting. Did we all suffer from deep apathy or despair at some time that contributed to our illness? This the link for those curious:
Thanks you Nathan123. That is really really interesting and compounds my suspicions that we all have our won underlying causes. I guess we need to go trough a check list of potentials..lyme disease etc...Looking forward to finally getting around to a hair test in the next few weeks.
Does anybody knows what happened to Slavrs website? I read a notice saying "Access to this site is restricted". I personally found it to be informative and right on the button. It would be a shame to see it gone for good.
Yes AJS. It could be that you suffer with EHS which I do as well. I found it much better when I changed to a flatscreen TV. The old TVs would affect me if I stuck my head anywhere bear the back. I am 99% sure my POIS and EHS are inter-webbed. Similar symptoms.
I would like to also put in my 5 cents worth and say could all the bickering talk please stop. We need to be open to all open to potential new findings that could help us get over this hell. I am off to the doctor tonight as I have just realized that I have been ignoring a varicose vein on my foot for far too long. I am not sure if that has been instrumental in any circulation issues that could have an impact on me in the form of POIS and my EMS but it needs to be looked at anyway. I have recently increased my zinc intake which has definitely had a positive on me. There has been a lot of progress since even a year ago.
In response to RD and Vincent M. If anybody is interested in the effects of EMS then instead they should go ahead and watch this recent documentary which spells it out very well. Explains in layman's terms without us needing to be a top notch physics scientist.
There a lots of studies pointing to magnetic waves and it's ability to reek havoc on our immune system and alter our body make up. And RD it IS real. Trust me. I am a well rounded person and am not one to make silly assumptions about things before thorough research. At the time it started around 20 years ago, it was just so unheard of but as scientists and physicians conducted their own independent studies so the evidence research online became more prevalent. The 'official' controlled experiments were funded by the power companies themselves and were fraught with inaccurate and flawing techniques to distinguish sensitivities as it can be a slow gradual thing. it's not like someone automatically feels pain and discomfort from flicking the switch of something electrical. Are you also saying that POIS is not real as well? There are always going to be people trying work out the mysteries of the strange type. Aren't there skeptics out there trying to dispel the whole man on the moon landing? Do any of us really believe that? I guess it is hard for some people to comprehend something that is just so foreign or hard to grab the nature of. It affects different people in different ways as does POIS. It is also very difficult to explain to anybody who doesn't actually have it themselves ala POIS. My discomfort come from a few different things, cellphones (there should be no debate about whether or not cellphones can be harmful. They just are), Hifi speakers headphones and backs of TV's/computer where intensity of waves seem to be more prevalent. Thank god for the invent of LCD TVs/screens. Like anything some people are just going to be predisposed to it more than others. Anyway this forum is for POIS so I will leave it at that. Watch the documentary for a full insight into what some are calling the health scare of the future. So Vincent, you don't have EMS and count yourself lucky.
I have mentioned before that for me the burning sensation is the most debilitating for me. I would call it more just a very sensitive retina. As if it had been bruised. Always hard to explain these sensations of pain sometimes. Anyway here are a few things (legal) I have noticed help me. Again, what works for one will not help the other necessarily .
Huperzine A Feenugreek with a good dose of green tea before and after O. Liquid B-12 Monster Khaos Energy Drink (the best of the energy drinks I have tried. Strong doses of B2, B3, B6, B12 and taurine with a good dose of caffeine in as well. This one fixed a lot of my brain fog as well) Zinc + Magnesium Coffee (slightly) Sleep (the best cure) B3 Niacin (not sure how helpful this is)
If there is anything anyone else can advise me with. The brainfog and other symptoms do not compare with the discomfort of the eye pain. I also get severe eye pain from my Electronic magnetic sensitivity (EMS) issue. I think it contributed with my POIS. Both started close enough to each other to raise an eyebrow or two. I am a daily reader and I am loving the honest and compelling insight into it all
I have started taking zinc and magnesuim supplements and they have helped me without a doubt. Like I have mentioned before my biggest problem is burning eyes. The sleep when taking these supplements is more of the healing kind. It means I can nap for 15-30 mins and get considerable relief with my sensitive eyes. I am certain there is a big zinc issue at work here. I will try melotonin supplements shortly.
After reading Nathans analysis and watching this amazing and scary documentary about electro-magnetic smog that is encompassing us everyday I have a suspicion that my EMS (electro-magnetic sensitivity) may have triggered my POIS. I did enduce myself to lots of frequent exposure to electro-magnetic wavefields without knowing the potential health hazards. Magnetic wavefields can wreak havoc with one's central nervous system and both of my conditions arriveded at basically the same time (when I was around 18). I am not saying we all have EMS of course but I am just putting it out there as a potential 'coal in the fire' for my issues. By the way. ..if you think having POIS is bad then try having POIS and EMS. Jeez. Anyway...this is a link for the doc called 'Resonance - Beings of Frequency'. It was made this year with all the latest in research development and truths concerning our over exposure to radiowaves. A little off the beaten track but seriously...
Well, I have been hesitant about posting this but since all this recent talk about serotonin and such. I have come across something that helps me tremendoulsy with my searing eye pain from POIS. The problem is it is illegal and obviously hazardous to your health. It is called ecstasy. MDMA acts as a releasing agent of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. MDMA increases oxytocin levels, which may strengthen the therapeutic alliance. I am not trying to sway anyone into going down this road as a cure of course, but trying to find a corralation to what could be potentially important components concerning specific targeted areas of the neurological system.
Like I said before in a comment, if you can find passionfruit green tea (with real seeds) then go for that. Or you could just add passionfruit to the mix itself. The nutrients I get from actually chewing on the seeds themselves help me refresh the mind in times of need. I'll add fenugreek seeds next time. I'm curious to see how that concoction goes.
Great to see all this new information coming out. A couple of power plays from me as my biggest issue is with sensitivity to light. Feels like a very weak retina that makes me lethargic and very easily tired. I found Huperzine to be a big help and I have also discovered that passionfruit seeds (need to be bitten and chewed on) can help alleviate as well. I am in Taiwan where teas are readily available around the corner. I go for a passionfruit green tea in times of need.
Just a qiuckie here. I have tried over the years with different 'power' foods/drinks to alleviate symptoms. I am a teacher so working in a class of students with POIS can be hell to say the least. To me Red Bull works the best. Not something you want to drink too much off (recommended limit is no more than 2 per day), but in times of urgent need I go for it. I put it down to the taurine. I have seen people mention Taurine supplements. Not a bad call.
I am a long time POIS sufferer now living in Taiwan. I have just discovered Niacan and and happy to say that I do find some relief from mainly the anxiety/slight depression and even a little of my extreme photophobia (sensitivity to sunlight). That's the worst sympton of my POIS. Extreme sensitivity to light. I also suffer from another rare disease called EHS 'electromagnetic hypersensitivity” which can trigger this as well, so it's a double whammy for me. Getting both af them at the same time is very irritable. Anyway, living in Taiwan I am rather blessed to be living in a society where I am surrounded by lots of little nibbles and snacks that are actually healthy and useful for prevention of ailments and potential diseases. As most of us seem to suffer from cognitive function issues, I was happy to come across a little treat that helps me somewhat alleviate this in the form of soybeans. They are sometimes seen as a side dish that gets served here with a meal. They are available here even in the 7-11s. Very accessible. Doing a little investigation I looked at the official wiki page and saw this line, "Recent studies have shown improvement in cognitive function, particularly verbal memory, and in frontal lobe function with the use of soy supplements." Sometimes we feel like we could be fooling ourselves by thinking something is having a positive effect on us when it might possibly just be wihsful thinking. Just thought I would put that out there. They are also nutrious for you in a whole bunch of other ways including being high in omega 3 acids. I am not sure if they are so accessible in the western world but hunt them out if you can. I do notice a lessening of the brain fog if I down a packet of these little beauties! P.S. You are meant to just eat the seed inside as the outside skin does not digest well in the gut.
Living in Taiwan, it can be rather difficult to express the discomfort this gives me. So here is a Chinese description of POIS:
