That CAN'T be true! / Show me the way to go home.
« on: 01/04/2008 04:07:21 »
does it depend if home is north or south???

That CAN'T be true! / How many calories in semen ?

I do find it at least mildly entertaining to read at the top of this page...

The Environment / Which state has the most diverse weather?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:50:08 »
Hmmm in Oregon you can go from desert to alpine glaciers to inland lush valley to ocean shore within a three hour drive.  It's a busy place!

The Environment / Is this a Frozen wave, and if so, how does this occur?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:47:35 »
Snow also can have some cohesion.  Sheets of snow can creep and actually bend once consolidated.  Melt/freeze and wind are the forces at work.

The Environment / Fog or mist?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:43:35 »
could it been fog is suspended and mist is actually falling, albeit only slightly?

6
The Environment / Can you advise me on changing my career to be a enviromental consultant?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:41:43 »
As you research a specialty of interest, be keenly aware of how they spend their time.  So many consultants spend way too much time filling out reports and not furthering their knowledge.   It makes for a lot of sad  "ologists".

Geek Speak / Why Does IE load up but not display ?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:36:41 »
Ewwwwwe  IE7 hates my notebook!   My touchpad loses all its great features like the gesture to go back a page in my history by sweeping a finger along the top.  ( ALPS touchpad)

I tried IE7 but gave up due to this.  I see many others have had the same trouble online , but M$ must not be interested in helping.  I am sticking with IE6 on Win XP.  It does just fine.

Back to your original Q...  I notice in Windows Task Manager that it still shows IE and firefox running after I close them down, so I manually close them in Task manager.   Just another reality if Windows I spose.  uggggg !

That's meatloaf?  I thought it was that fruitcake that has been circling the globe since the first Christmas !  ;)

Geology, Palaeontology & Archaeology / What's the difference between Tremors & earthquakes?

Half a regular coke and I get the tremors

Geology, Palaeontology & Archaeology / Is it REALLY REALLY true that diamonds don't scratch?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:26:18 »
hmmmm well water has worn down a lot of rocks harder than it is  ... go figure.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Are more fish species found in fresh or salt water?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:21:22 »
It is as likely to find well oxygenated water in deep fresh water as it is in saltwater.  The physics of mixing are pretty much the same.

Oceans certainly have the volume advantage, yet fresh water is divided by many barriers such as geological and thermal.  Many anadromous fish (those spawning in freshwater and rearing in saltwater) have mixed populations in the oceans but remain seperate species, subspecies and populations because they are sequestered during spawning.  It is an interesting question!

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Re: Do goldfish really grow only as big as their tank allows?
« on: 01/04/2008 03:19:06 »
Then how do you explain 3 fish in a 4 foot long aquarium and all three fish were a foot and a half long?

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Pictures of Wildlife...the Birds and the Bees etc etc

hehe loved the blob fish !

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Re: What are your favourite Plant Pictures?
« on: 01/04/2008 02:50:59 »

Yes they are pretty plants, but they are domestic garden flowers, not wildflowers.  Those mountains are the tetons in Wyoming.  We are working with the native flowers of that area, so I have some familiarity.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Re: Do goldfish really grow only as big as their tank allows?
« on: 01/04/2008 02:36:29 »
That's a myth.  I've grown trout in aquaria that were so big they could barely turn around.  No doubt the myth is perpetuated by backyard ponders who will believe anything they read on the net lol

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / How Do Fish Breathe Beneath A frozen Pond ?
« on: 01/04/2008 02:34:29 »
keep the ice clear so the plants will continue to produce oxygen and your fish stick is safe from the deep fryer all winter.  lol

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Any advice on Ornamental Ponds pond plants etc?
« on: 01/04/2008 02:31:32 »
lol sooo many questions in one post...  rig up a little water jet/spray to push the duck weed to one side.  And cut back on your feeding.  The duckweed will end up inside the fish.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Can A Dead Jelly Fish Still Sting ?

I was reminded of this on a southern beach recently... I kept a keen eye out.

The Environment / Beautiful places

Gorgeous and amazing!  I'd love to see a close up of that bridge.  It seems to defy physics.
