give him the smell that he recognizes as his mother's scent, and then cut off his nose. he should recognize the symbolism. That might do the job but not in all cases..... do you accept. The child could pick up a different perspective of the scenario
The old joke used to be the child was blind and dumb and lost his mother..the answer used to be you just tell him he wasnt deaf!Pardon me, the child is deaf, dumb and blind.
Thayo first yoy said he was just deaf and blind, then below it you say remember he is Deaf dumb and blind.. which changes the whole thing.. This used to be and old joke because people used to automaticly think oh he's he's a deaf mute, but he wasnt deaf he was dumb and blind..
so he could hear you.. Unless I am way off base

Deaf, dumb, and blind, would not prevent communication through touch and smell (including the use of braille).
