yes, which i why i wondered whether Vasopressin is involved/ or could be involved in helping pois.
Vasopressin is released at the point of arousal.
i feel my problem starts at the point of arousal not the actual 'O' itself, as like you, i get some pois even without an O.
be interesting to find out if pois sufferers have a lower or higher production of Vasopressin during arousal(?)
If Vasopressin is involved than POIS-patients must have too much of it. Because edema (holding moisture) is one of the symptoms.

I think everybody with POIS has POIS-symptoms even without an O. Maybe it has too do with the making of sperm? This proces might change the metabolism. And after an O there is a lot of sperm being made and released.

Do others have a few POIS-symptoms in smaller scale after masturbation/sex without an O/ejaculation? In that situation my saliva is a bit thicker. And I have more moisture in my eyes. A little irritated nose. I don't get sick like after an O, but I don't feel 100 percent.

ty demo, i figured it was obvious why i was curious =) but moving on, i am curious now about this:

Speaking about the mental aspect of POIS:

Say because of whatever POIS is, something is messed up in our body that causes other problems, ie, a certain % of memory and cognitive dysfunction even when we havent O'ed in forever. Of course we cannot really measure what our fullest cognitive n memory functions would be, since we really have no point of reference.

I am interested in seeing w/e this "treatment" is, and being open to the possibility that trying the treatment alone, without O'ing, might bring benefits in and of itself.

This assumes of course that there is a standing deficiency within the body wherein an O causes all these POIS symptoms.

Can Dr. Waldinger at least give us a timeline of when the information may be published?
If POIS has to do with metabolism. Than it might be that we had other symptoms of POIS without an O.

I noticed that in the period before my first O I was a little bit negative. And that without a reason. Things went well: study, job, family, friends. And in the period with O's I became more and more negative. I screwed up a few relationships. When the relationship is nearly to a deeper next level I always managed to find something negative in the woman. And than I ended the relationship. If I didn't had POIS I would now probably have a wife and children. Sometimes I react very irritable. After a few hours I think to myself: that's not me. I am not myself.

I tried this: a half an hour before an O I took 1 Xyzal (antihistamines). And then directly after the O a NSAID. Let's see if I recover faster.

Tommorow I'm going to try magnesium preparations. I will not be the cure. But I read that magnesium is very good for the muscles and joints. Maybe this wil improve the recovory.
The first thing didn't work. I feel bad as before.

I do not think you should believe a satirical site.

I agree, but as Defsync points out, the author would have to know something to have written this spoof. And I'm curious as well to find out what he does know. We're not exactly a well-know fodder for humor on Letterman, so maybe the author knows something we don't? Can't hurt to try and find out.

I think they read the email of dr. Waldinger on this forum. Maybe they came on this site through Google.

Vandemolen, I thought you might be interested in our numerous past discussions here about cortisol:

Ok thanks.
I've got a new question. When people have their cortisol checked, is that a day after an O? I think that's important. Because I think the body of a POIS-patient will have less cortisol. A normal person can make cortisol very quick. But if a POIS-patient wait a few days after an O for the cortisol check, it might be a normal level.

Dave, I don't think POIS is psychological. It may play a role when you are afraid of the effects of an O, but the main problem is bio-physical. The first research of dr. Waldinger went against those who said that it's between your head (psychological).

2/ If we don't release more inflammatory agents, is it possible our natural anti-inflammatory response is too weak ? (=cortisol).
Cortisol may have an effect on our dissease. The body makes new cortisol in the period of waking up. But because we don't have a deep sleep because of POIS, this doesn't happen. Now the question is: why don't we have a deep sleep in the first night after an O.
Cortisol may explain why we have the most pain in the day after an O.

Everyone, I just received a lengthy and very hopeful email from Prof. dr. Waldinger, but the contents are confidential. Let's hope for great success in his continuing POIS Medical Research and publication efforts!

That's great news. Well done!
Let's all be patient.

In the meanwhile let's exchange garlic recipes. :D

Has anyone also suffer from tonsil stones? This is a few days after an O.

NSAID's after an O helps a bit against the myalgia and joint pain. And I use Xyzal direct after an O against allergic reactions.

I don't know if it helps when taking NSAID before an O.

But what I know is that NSAID's are not good for the body. So you can't use the daily. Using NSAID a lot can cause arrhythmias.

He is going to book me to see a Urologist for the "slightly blocked" sperm ducts.
Maybe it's an urethra stricture. Do you had a lot of ary tract infections?
Maybe I've got this problem too. This year I had three UTI's. The last time my urine was checked and everything was OK. But I still had pains, especially on the back of the penis where the urethra is.

I agree but how do you currently treat Fibromyalgia?
Is there some kind of neurosurgery available?
The problem is that there is no good treatment for Fibromyalgia or Chronic fatigue syndrome. Only some diet advices.

New Theories / Re: Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS)

I think the key will be that POIS must be treated in a way like Fibromyalgia. POIS shows a lot of similarity's with Fibromyalgia. Only POIS is after an O.

Demo, I think that Dr. Waldinger doesn't want to come out with his findings after he is 100 percent sure. He is a professor. And he can't afford that his findings are not correct. A publication is a scientific journal is a prove that he made progression. So we all have to be patient. The most of us suffer a lot of with years with POIS. So that waiting a few months should't be so hard. In the meanwhile we have to search for (natural) things that reduces the pain and symptoms.

I'm an electronics engineer, and don't know much about the auto-imune system, but recently did a bunch of reading on the internet. What a system, very complex for my liking. I'm surprised that more things don't go wrong with it. Then to top it all off, the hormonal system is almost as complicated, especially realting to sex it seems.

I wouldn't be surprised if chronic infections in the groin area wouldn't upset the apple-cart enough to cause POIS.

In my case, I am fairly sure that my reveral of a vesectomy (after 20 yrs.) is causing some sort of back-up in the reproductory system that interact with antibdoies that not everybody has.

Could damage in the area from infections create antibodies once semen somehow enters a forbidden part? After which the body's combat caused by these anti-bodies cause POIS.

Well, you're not long from seeing THE Doc, so maybe we will soon know!!
Yes POIS is like an allergic attack.

I can call him tommorow to make an appointment. I hope to visit him this week or next week. Maybe I first have to sign a confidentiality agreement. :)
