Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Pants
« on: 13/06/2006 17:38:34 »
I was wondering if you physicists might be able to tell me why my pants and underwear always ride "up" despite the obvious gravitational implications.  They should go down but they always go up and give me narly itches and discomfort.  Explain .......

General Science / Re: High-pitched ring tone is for teens' ears only
« on: 13/06/2006 17:27:51 »
Seriously you cant knock a entire genre of music (unless youve heard every single song). you have to appreciate each song or hate each song individually. But i can hear all those high pitch noises having super good ears for these things and I would hate the mosquitos, but they dont stay on all the time, shopkeepers turn them on when theres gangs hanging around

That CAN'T be true! / Why Goosebumps in a hot bath??
« on: 20/04/2006 00:09:20 »
When you get in a hot bath your skin, even the bits submerged get goosebumps. Why? Goosebumps are a reflex action for when the skin is cold. Explain ............

Just Chat! / Re: Are people born gay or they become gay after?
« on: 20/04/2006 00:05:09 »
I think this question has no place in science forum. The descision to be gay isnt in your genes and is highly dependent on environmental factors. Is another one of those things that is created by a series of electrical impulses in that mushy thing called our brains. Choice is something you cant explain or recreate, computors can make informed decisions, humans can make a choice and if we could ever explain how people make choices then we would be one step closer to creating authentic artificial inteligence. Which then poses the question, Could computors evolve to be gay???  Answer that one. go on just try it, I dares ya........

General Science / Re: Worlds worst inventions
« on: 12/02/2006 11:31:44 »
Dont get me wrong, I hate cell phones as much as the rest of us here but if I didnt have mine I wouldnt be with my beautiful girlfriend, thats the first step in getting a girl, to get her number. I owe everything to my phone. Im sure everyone can understand this its true that its impossible to get a girl without calling her and who uses land lines anymore.

My conclusions, its not the phone thats the problem its the idiot who's on it.........

« on: 12/02/2006 11:21:01 »
if you wanted to try and suck the drink 10 miles along a straw dont forget to get a really big glass because thats just over 250 cubic metres (off the top off my head) of coca cola you gonna be sucking up,

That CAN'T be true! / Im freezing my bees off!!
« on: 09/02/2006 20:56:53 »
If you catch a bee and put it in the freezer it will freeze and you can tie a piece  cotton around one of its legs and it will unfreeze and you can have your own pet bee on a string.  Why doesnt the bee die when you freeze it, i dont understand!!

PS if your going to try this then heres some tips:
1. use a tupperware container with a tiny bit of sugar water in it for the intial catch
2.wear gloves
3. the bee/wasp will eventually attempt to fly away so hard it will pull off its own leg leaving it free to sting you

That CAN'T be true! / Re: God real or not
« on: 09/02/2006 20:45:00 »
when i see scientific evidence for a god i will believe it but all i see are stories from a book. No one can come up with any evidence to prove there is a god and there is data to disprove some of the bible but not all of it. to me the bible is no more real than any other book for example The lord of the rings. if everyone made statues of frodo and worshipped it they would get locked in an asylum with padded walls. Going by this theory religion is merely an accepted form of Mass Hysteria and with no evidence for it. sorry if i offended anyones beliefs but im really anti religion.

on this subject whos read Angels and deamons by Dan Brown, this forum reminds me of that book, its excellent

General Science / Re: Crap ice from plane can kill?
« on: 09/02/2006 20:32:32 »
can i take it back to the original question here, if A DROP of water....  obviously frozen water the size of a softball could kill someone if you dropped it from 100 feet, let alone 33,000 ft, but like i said one drop is going to measure about 1/5 inch across so its terminal velocity will stop it from gaining enough momentum to damage you too badly.

General Science / Un-natural Selection
« on: 30/01/2006 23:23:08 »
This is an appeal to everyone out there who has ever thought there are too many ugly people out there.  If beautiful people all around the world only have sex with other beautiful people then the ugly people will get no sex at all therefore will have no chance to procreate. If only beautiful people can reproduce then the ugly people will slowly die out leaving a planet of only beautiful people for the coming generations.  For the sake of your childrens children, please use protection next time you get too desperate and sleep with someone ugly.  What are your thoughts on this matter? My plan is open to suggestions/improvements.

I accept no responsibility for any controversy this statement may cause

That CAN'T be true! / Re: Sweating
« on: 30/01/2006 23:25:38 »
i have not tried waxing, but i have shaved my armpits and find it does reduce the amount i sweat. i am guessing this is due to less heat insulation in the specified region.  i may consider waxing, my girlfriend says it last longer

Physiology & Medicine / Can myopia be cured by reading through strong lenses?
« on: 25/01/2006 23:28:36 »
This ones for all the opthalmologists out there,  I have heard a lot of fuss about David de Angelis supposed cure for myopia. I his book he proposes if a myopic person reads while wearing strong plus lenses it will force the eye to shorten itself using the ocular rotary muscles therefore putting an end to short sightedness.  What can anyone tell me about his theory, does it work?

And one more question on the side, does an emotropic eye equal 60 or 65 dioptres? It seems no one can decide.

That CAN'T be true! / Sweating
« on: 24/01/2006 19:32:51 »
Rumour has it / Word on the street is that removing all the hair from your armpits (or anywhere hairy) by waxing them will stop or greatly ruduce sweating in the specified area. If I were to wax my armpits would I sweat less or just get bullied for being a wussy?

General Science / Re: Crap ice from plane can kill?
« on: 24/01/2006 19:20:18 »
If were talking about a single droplet of water which will probaly measure 5mm approx total diameter even when frozen, this ice droplets terminal velocity will be only just over 10 miles per hour (sorry brit measurments here) according to the chart provided by Robert. Thats not even as fast as if someone threw it at you with mild/intermediate effort. Only just enough for you to react with "Cor blimey that 'urt me noggin guv'ner". Not even enough to cause bruising let alone kill you

Chemistry / Ology
« on: 23/01/2006 22:47:56 »
My physics lecturer once told me anything ending in -ology is not a real science so does that mean biology is all fake, should chemists destroy it and take over the world?
