Setti has been searching for signals from other worlds for some time now
with no results, (one must remember this search is very limited) but i
guess one can say that no civilisation comparable to ours is in reach of
Setti in the part of the sky it has looked at, and that the universe is
not teeming with life on a par with ours in our (local) space.

Surely a length of any thing able to reach into space will have serious problems without some sort of (damper) to prevent serious oscillations leading to catastrophic failure?
