Until about a year ago an all white (not albino) squirrel was an occasional visitor to my garden but no more it presumably it has come to the end of its natural life or been finished off by a predator. Today I saw a mixed one with a grey back and a white belly I guess they are rather rare.
In the early days of the underground railways locomotives were fueled by hot water (the fires shut down to prevent smoke) , of course the amount of energy that can be stored in hot water is very low but a car could be run on water for a short distance.
How do you discourage people from making babies when they are a useful source of income ? there are two stories going the rounds at the moment "the horrors of child labor in the production of cocoa" and the sorry tale of American women having babies to get government benefits and then letting die of neglect.
The METAR FARO reports seem to be closer to what I observe on the weather satellite pictures as you say some of the variation may be due to the terrain. Many thanks I am always shocked when I see temperatures reported in Fahrenheit my American friends report that it is going to be 50 degrees and I shudder at the thought of being cooked but when I get there they are reaching for their coats.
when I check the temperatures for the region around Faro in Southern Portugal on the weather satellite pictures they tend to read up to 10°C higher than what the BBC weather service tells me they should be. Comparing temperatures across most of Europe they tend to coincide within 1°C but they are consistently wrong in this area any ideas ?
Much excitement because we are building two Proton beam cancer treatment facilities (so that patients do not have to go to America or the Prague), a better use for money than separating conjoined twins.
This is basically a question about scientific method, we must ask does the question state any facts upon which we could base a calculation ,if not we must look to published literature or do the basic research ourselves. For instance looking for the records of the Ornithological society (if such a publication exists) might well reveal a study of woodchucks in the wild which would provide an answer if not we would have to organise such a study ourselves.
The answer is of course no but there is still a large body of belief that they were. As an electronic technician who was well acquainted with the TV camera and communication systems of the time and who viewed all the original broadcasts I am shocked by all the CGI copies of the historic pictures that are being published on the media today. These can of course only give the impression that the whole thing was shot in the Hollywood film studios. I well remember the improvement of picture quality that was achieved when the first portable parabolic antenna was deployed and the excitement on future landings when the monochrome TV cameras were replaced by frame sequential colour ones
I fear I might be treading on dangerous ground asking this question but I would like to see discussion of the subject. Certain London hospitals namely Great Ormand street have built a reputation for separating conjoined twins and multiple organ transplants on new born infants. Why is this done ? the cost of such procedures vastly exceeds the cost of replacing the infants and a few conjoined twins can live satisfactory lives. The ethical view is of course that each human life is of near infinite value but of course this view is not shared by the military, insurance companies, abortion clinics and even town councils planning road works. As the operations are often carried out on members of relatively poor countries free of charge I get the impression it is done for propaganda purposes to show what a wonderful health service we have.
