What I'm saying is that we need a revolution for something to happen. A revolution inside your mind :) It's always easier to blame someone else though, a lot easier than to blame yourself. So between those I think the external blaming game will win.
There is a clear difference between the way we we were able to create international laws protecting the ozone layer, and the way we fail today when it comes to global warming. The reason for it is that the former (ozone layer) was able to be handled inside those values we share.
Global warming forces you out of that 'personal fulfillment zone'.
And that, I don't think people are prepared for that one. Doesn't matter what your status is, or your 'peers' are. It demands you to change your own mind, find new values, and most of us seem unable to do so.
When it comes to the Chinese it may express itself differently, but it's still about power. Just like it was in the former USSR (the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). And if we take Sweden? It's losing a lot of its old values becoming a 'modern' state too :) with all of what that implies in form of a blatant bureaucracy created for the benefit and protection of 'powers that be'. Kind of sux all of it, but it seems it's the best we can do. So no, we have to live with global warming as it seems to me, or just as probably die out.
The only thing differing one from another is to the degree it takes those able to 'fulfill' those common values. Like Putin, supposedly stacking away billions :). He's fulfilling his dreams, and probaly finding himself worth it. Or take Trump and his troika, trying to amend all laws protecting wilderness and water courses in the USA, redefining 'global warming' to something not worth bothering about. =
Eh, 'amend' as in redefining laws to fit mr Trumps, and his peers, visions of what makes USA great. The ability to rape the earth.
And that's one major reason why I don't think we will succeed. We're locked into one mode of living, building on personal 'fulfillment' as defined by ourselves and our society. And that mode isn't that different anywhere.Don't matter if you call it a democracy or a dictatorship. The same sort of excesses can be seen everywhere.
