microscale vessels carrying acoustic waves and oscillating bubbles are benkig developed to carry meds. to precise locations in the body. great! But how can such things be actually made? they can only be seen with high powered microscopes so how can anything handle them let alone insert anything into them? I have read about the composition of the nano vessels but nowhere does anything say how these things are actually constructed - is there a special machine? They are quite complicated.
I heard someone today saying, when talking about Voyageur 2, that it would go on travelling in space for billions of years. This suggests that it will never break down/'decay,change. is this true of anything that gets into space?
havnig to buy a new fridge after mine gave up (29 years old) I was unfamiliar with the new ones. the condenser coils are now enclosed at the back and the salesman said i wouldn't need any space for air to circulate , or at the sides. Is this true? Doesn't lack of air circulation mean more energy is used? Also he says a bottom freezer space does not use more energy than a top one, although some energy guides say the opposite because he compressor motor is at the bottom.??
I have heard there are different types of dementia, some more treatable than others, some less all encompassing than other leaving parts of the brain unaffected. Does anyone hive experience of a type that only affects a small part of hte brain and if so how is it treated?
I have a poster from the Perimeter Institute (Waterloo ON Canada) which shows an equation that is supposed to reflect all the main physics theories etc. by the most important physicists. How can it do this? Does it make any sense as is? I want to put it on a T shirt for a teenage science buff but he is sure to want to know what it means - so do I. physics.jpg (80.09 kB . 1123x599 - viewed 664 times)
I saw a video of simulated collision of Andromeda and our galaxy. how could Andromeda collide with our galaxy if everything is moving away from everything else ? Are some galaxies moving more quickly and so catch up?
Sitting by the ocean I often see crows and seagulls chasing an eagle. No nests nearby. The eagle ends up perching on a pole of some sort and the others just circle and then go away. Why do these smaller birds chase the eagle?
Tried to make sense of importance of photo of 'black hole' but explanation I read talks about matter and light going into the hole - this seems still metaphorical - gives an inaccurate account really since it isn't a 'hole ' as we would know one, so what is it? And what about 'worm holes '- another metaphor but how can it be explained in terms of going 'into' another universe
Someone on this forum suggested getting an upright MRI for lumbar stenosis at the one machine in Canada. Has anyone had an ordinary MRI and an upright one and been able to assess the difference in imaging and if/how this benefited the surgeon who provided subsequent treatment? Would it be worth it at $1000 a treatment?
Anticipating a laminectomy for arthritis in L4L5 I am now informed that the doctor who was giving me cortico steroid injections for the above will give me an adheliolysis. I looked it up and it seems to deal with the abdomen and bowel, neither of which are my problem.
If a hyperactive thyroid gland is treated with radioactivity and the individual has to take thyroid pills for ever after, can the thyroid gland grow again? if not, why does the dose of the medication vary throughout a lifespan? Why can 125mcg be OK for decades and then 100 for a few years and then 75 if the gland is inactive?
Faulty kidneys, drug interactions have so far been dismissed.Kidneys are fine. But potassium level it over 6. Diet has been watched already- keeping to low potassium foods- although this is a bit difficult because of conflicting information. I drink enough liquid(no booze) don't eat processed food, or big portions, am not fat, exercise etc. - and why, by the way, why do cooked veg have more potassium than raw ones? Thanks for any suggestions.
I was told to take a steroid in the morning (just before breakfast - to reduce pain) when cortisol production in the body was lowest, but I see from web info that the production is highest in he morning,. so why would doctors and pharmacists say the opposite? And why, if steroids reduce the body's production by slowing down the adrenal gland would one take the steroid to produce the cortisol and not leave the gland to do it?Also, if one has low body production of cortisol - a low cortisol reading on a blood test - and a weakening adrenal gland , and one tries to increase cortisol production after stopping[steroids would one be encouraged not to do anything which raises cortisol levels? I am continually annoyed, when listening to otherwise interesting podcasts/videos/news items- even live people- . to hear the word 'like' inserted between every other word. I thought this would be a passing phase - mostly a teenage habit - but it seems it is pervasive and knows no age barrier. Where did it come from? How is it that some people seem to grow out of the habit and others don't? Is there anything that can be done in terms of influencing trends on 'social media' to help eliminate the redundant use of the word?
