A MOTTO FOR BRITAIN......
« on: 21/09/2007 18:41:03 »
Ok, so I was watching the news and some feel that Britain needs a motto like the Americans have, their motto, if you don't know it is:- "In God we trust".

So I thought we could get started here:

I am going to go for

"FREEDOM, JUSTICE AND RESPECT FOR ALL"

What would you like? Ideas welcome....

The trouble with all mottos is that they are a great catchphrase (albeit, "Freedom, Justice, and respect for all" is not really that catchy), and everybody can agree on the form of words, but nobody can agree what they mean, so they still kill each other, each side arguing they are fighting for the same thing, and denying that the other side are paying anything but lip service to the motto.

"Made In Britain"

I remember when we were World leaders in Manufacturing Now I can't remember any British manufacturers. Year after year our wonderful leaders have raped the working class, who only wanted to earn enough money for a pint of beer or three and a smoke down the local boozer.

The final act of idiocy which will undoubtedly undermine the very last foundations of our working class was to ban smoking. Yes that’s correct ban smoking! Now at night we see the last few remnants of our fantastic social lives reduced to standing in the cold wet air sucking on a wet tab which predictably has closed down thousands of public houses across the country ruining many favoured communication links in this blatant divide and conker ploy. I would like to meet the stupid moron that implemented this and knock him around the pub car park until my fists bleed.

If people want to smoke let them decide for themselves, don’t alienate them for being human!

Steady on, Andrew - no violence please!  [:D]

I totally agree with your sentiments on the smoking ban. It's not just pubs that are being hit. I was reading in the paper a couple of weeks back that quite a few bingo halls have had to close due to drastically reduced income since the ban was implemented.

So, how about this for the motto... "NO ANYTHING THAT YOU ENJOY"

United We Stand, Divided We Fall

You have to hand it to our French friends, whenever some idiot in office tries it on with the people of France, all hell breaks loose, the whole country unifies itself against the small band of idiots and the problem is quickly resolved, usually ending in the idiots being sacked.

Whatever happened to the British Spirit?

Another moto would be.    "Form an orderly Que" these words could easily wipe out the entire population in the U.K. just have a door opening onto a cliff top into the ocean and start a que

Damn it's gone pretty quiet on this thread, hope no one formed an orderly que?

Just in case there is anyone left alive out there.  This motto appears to fit
"Weapons of Mass Distraction" or "They don't have an army so let's blow them to bits"

Indeed I do Kenny was one of my all time favourits. Watched the video the other day about him and Freddy Mercury. Never realised they shared the same partner who gave them both aids. Such a waste of two brilliant performers

Was thinking about your screen name the other day and wondered if you were a gynecologist :P

After I posted my above reply, I looked the bottom of the page where it lists "Other things on a similar subject". All of them were concerned with fish. The only reference to fish was my putting (Pisces) at the bottom of my reply. Did it really pick up on that?  Why not archery, beavers or horses?  [???]

I'm intrigued that people go so upset when the government overturned the ban on fresh air in pubs. This peculiar ban was policed by an un elected minority at the risk of their own health and that of others.
Still, back to the slogan.
How about  "Britain; there's about 1 1/4 born every minute"
or "The country previously known as Great Britain"
BTW, is an orderly que a well organised question in Spanish?
Please disregard all previous signatures.

I though we already had one, or two even long before the USA.

They are on the Royal Coat of Arms but we still use the French.

Dieu et mon droit = God and my right.

Honi soit qui mal y pense = Evil be to him who evil thinks.

In keeping with French I prefer "nation de frère"  [;D]

Yup, someone told me a story of about how a guy from the US tried to get a job in Britain, but he continually lost the job to lesser qualified persons. So, he changed his name to sound more European, and he got the job.

Does Britain hate US?
