Are there any good programs to help me keep my appointments?
« on: 26/09/2013 05:29:11 »
As some of you know, I'm on probation. I've forgotten to keep a couple of my meetings with my probation officer and she's doing her thing, threatening to take me back into court about it. I can't do that. So I figure that if I find the right program it will help me keep my appointments,

Does anybody know of a good Windows XP program that will wake me up and remind me of my meetings for the day? Thanks.

Pete

There are always benefits of using a printed calendar.

However, I think Outlook has a calendar built into it.  I never used it much, but some people do.  Blackberries can also tie into the Outlook calendar, at least for corporate accounts.  I presume other smart cell phones will do the same.

Actually, thinking about it.  The corporate versions of the Blackberry and smart phones sync automatically.  The personal version probably need you to plug the device into your PC to sync.

I have one. But I forget to look at it quite often.

Great! I'll check it out.

I can't afford a blackberry. I'm looking for something I can get on www.download.com

Outlook, of course, comes with some versions of MS Office.  All versions?

I think OpenOffice or LibreOffice have a similar function in the Evolution package, although I haven't used that one either, and it likely would have less smartphone support.

There are "sticky note" simulations where a note will appear on screen when you start the computer ...

Whatever hardware runs your program, you have to keep it switched on and, if you want it to wake you up, close to your bed. I use a cheap old mobile phone. One of the earliest Nokia apps (so old that they call it a feature, not an app) is "calendar" that does exactly what you need.

I think you can program your computer to turn on at a specified time.  I assume that is generally the same time every day, but there is no reason it couldn't be tied into the calendar.

Still seems like a lot of hard work and hardware to replicate what you probably already have in a portable and reliable form.

I think some virtual sticky-notes can be made to pop-up say a week in advance of the due date.
Some have the ability to record voice messages ...

and they don't fall off the screen like the paper originals.

What do you mean by probably already have in a portable and reliable form?

I understand how it can look from someone else's point of view. However, being in my shoes it's really quite a different experience though. With severe problems with memory the problem causes a world of differences though. The courts are not a patient entity though though.

I think Alan is referring to real paper post-it sticky notes, which are "portable and reliable".
