Sunset Beach - the soap, or What's The Worst...?
« on: 30/03/2008 09:07:17 »
Does anyone remember it? It has to rank as one of the worst series ever on TV. It was so bad, it was funny. But I think that was deliberate. It had quite a cult following.

But it got me thinking... what do you consider the worst (as in badly made, badly acted, most useless, etc) program or film of all time?

We get plenty of "What's your favourite...?" or "What's the best...?", so here's a "What's the worst...?" for you all to get your teeth into.  [:D]

For me, it has to be another soap - Eldorado. A whole village was built in Spain to film it in. It was supposed to be about a community of ex-pats. It was hyped up to be the best thing TV had ever screened. Oh dear... not quite.

The plots were weak to say the least, the scripts were dire and the whole thing was a complete waste of time & money. Thankfully, it only lasted for a year.

Here's the Wikipedia entry about it.

Dark Mansions - the Vampire soap opera produced in the 70's - Very strange - and so poorly acted it makes Captain Kirk look like Sir John Geilgud.

Captain Kirk is real!!! That William Riker in the Next Generation was much more wooden. He was so bad he always walked tilted to one side like his suit was pulling on his tackle.

Was he an angler?

I thought the classic for poor production qualities was supposed to be Crossroads.

On the other hand, I suppose one could say it was maybe from an era where make believe did not have to be realistic.

Not that it had any other qualities to make up for lack of realism.

LOL LOL! There was one I watched that was groups of people living off the land the way it used to be.. it was a PBS special it was a bit odd but interesting way to learn about what we all have now and being grateful about our technology but also to appreciate what our fore fathers did to give us what we have know.. lots of hard labor and sweat involved in giving us better opportunities as well as education etc!

I think the Aussies do bad soaps and dramas the best. What about 'Prisoner Cell Block H?'

This was one of the best wobbly sets. When an actor left (got a better offer) they would just get another actor to play the part rather than writing them out. They would stop in the middle of a scene and say, 'the part of such and such is now being played by such and such', one actor would walk off and the new one would just take over. It was very confusing if you missed these changes.

King Of The Guy & Family Guy don't cut it for me either, but I wouldn't say they're the worst.

Yeah, Crossroads & Prisoner Cell Block H were really grim too.

Slightly off the subject but a fact DocB will love. The man who invented 'Big Brother' is related to the man who put in the present sewerage system in London. I guess messing in other peoples dirt runs in the family! I think his surname is Baziljet or something weird like that.
