No - this forum is in danger of becoming a slanging match between Brits and Yanks. Let's keep it civilised old bean!

Mr Neilep almost started something by having a poke at lovely old Essex but the famous English restraint and sense of fair play prevailed and all sat down together for a lovely cuppa rosey lee.
Phew that was close[;)]

You guys want to ban us?  Aw, and I was going to make a visit.  But if I'm not welcome...
Actually, I have an ex stepdaughter that is in London, and I wouldn't blame you guys for banning her.  I wish I could ban her from the states.

Spot on Neil,

It's from Uptown top Rankin' by Althea and Donna. The more modern reggae and pop I hear, the more I yearn for the good old "Roots Reggae".  Being a wise old sage of forty-one, I think I've heard it all... and then heard the cover versions of it all. We desperately need something new to come along but all we get is totty, Country totty, classical totty, Celtic totty,  nice to look at but it don't move music along one inch. I live in hope, every now and then the music biz goes stale and along comes someone to give it all a shake, Elvis, Jerry Lee, the Beatles, Sex pistols, Nirvana....
I'm waiting......

Mike

It was Ozzy Osbourne who splashed his boots on the Alamo, I'm not sure if he can remember it[:D]

I think Mark Thatcher dodged taxes in Texas, He's in South Africa now facing extradition to Equitorial Guinea accused of funding a coup.

Reminds me of that scene in Monty Pythons 'Life of Brian' where the PFJ leader asks the rhetorical question "What have we got to thank the Romans for?"  Cue an enormous list of benefits concluding with peace! :-)

Most countries in recent times, and the British in particular, have got a lot of reasons to thank the Yanks and we don't forget that even when we're slagging them off over some aspect of policy or other.

As far as I'm concerned they're very welcome here, the more the merrier!

Firstly let me say i have nothing against the americans.

but in your words "and the British in particular, have got a lot of reasons to thank the Yanks"

why!
And dont say the second world war 2, because the reason for america entering in to the conflict was based on more factors than

them just helping us out,or should i say helping the uk to help the rest of europe [:)]

As far as "particularly Britain" is concerned, I was going to say WWII I must admit [:)]  That and the official and unofficial help from the States before they joined in, when they were supposed to be neutral.  There have been instances since, too.

Apart from the military stuff I think we have benefited more than others through shared language and culture, promotion of which by the US directly helps us with things like trade/tourism and, most importantly, protects us from the nightmare of having to learn another language.

I know it's irritating that we don't rule the world any more but I think, given that, we could have done a lot worse [:)]

Let's hope the next super-power is equally sympatico, India anyone?  They not only speak English but play cricket too!
