The reasoning is that you need energy to get through the day. Having a good breakfast gives you that energy and you burn off the calories in doing so.

The later you eat, the less chance you have to burn off the calories. So, the late-night donner kebab is a big no-no.

(Personally, I'd rather have the late-night donner)

Thank you all for your answers.

I imagine a breakfast is all well and good for the nine to fivers who go to bed at 11pm and are up at 7am....

Having said that..is " Breakfast " just the first meal of the day...what ever time of day it is ?...ie: it's not exclusively a morning meal ?

french fries, beans, hmmmmm thats odd.

I like the idea of fresh tomatoes and mushrooms country sausage but not link...

What in the wold is the striped stuff??? Is it fish??

I prefer fresh fruit, like a banana an orange and or an apple!

Fresh squeezed orange juice.....sometimes a bagel wih cream cheese and bacon and avocado and a tomatoe!! Like a BLT.

Sometimes hot cereal like wheat hearts or oatmeal, or cream of wheat with fresh sliced fruit and hot buttered toast and cinnamon! !

Other times I like t have a yogurt and fruit smoothie ! ! ! !

left overs are good to. Heres the big but.....
i am not usually ready to eat until 10 am or 11 am... because od my sleep pattern..I like lunc around 3 pm.... and dinner around 7 or so..

my medication requires me to eat earlier and  have small non protein non dairy snack with the pills....so it has changed my meals.

So thats a typical breakfast in england eh???

I actually feel better if I eat fruit and such in the morning ...I did not used t.. but I think it is important to energise your body and get your mtabolism going for the ay  and I think my body runs better with a good start.. not heavy....thought... light my tummy is touchy in the morning and too much grease and stuff upsets it.

So once a week a real hearty breakfast, usually on Saturday or Sunday, with country fried potatoes with onions bell peppers red and green, country sausage, fresh fruit, toast or english muffin with honey or blackberry or raspberry jam.. and juice and coffee ... Yummmmmmy

Our breakfast is basically the same... here at least the way most people eat!.. I like more fruits etc.. except I love fried potatoes and country sty7le patty sausage seasoned good with fruit etc.. Yummy! But that is like a once a week if I am lucky thing... not often its super greasy so I limit it! It is a treat and I treat it as such!

Ya'all don't know what ya missin. Black pudding ( a good one )with lots of pepper and spice in it and non of those great lumps of fat is awesome. With spring or Spanish onion on some nice French crusty roll, or indeed fried or grilled for a breakfast. (think about the name for a minute....Break...Fast?
Me thinks there is some deep rooted meaning in this relating to when people went on a fast and the very next day they had a Break...Fast meal. Hmmmm Streaky Bacon...Does this mean a naked pig is exposing himself?

Andrew has pretty much got the etymology correct. However, the fast concerned was no more than overnight after supper. It wasn't a fast such as, for instance, Ramadan.

It used to be common practise to make black pudding without killing the animal. You would just let some blood out and stitch it up again. It seems like a good idea actually.
