Oliver Benson asked the Naked Scientists:

If a peanut is not actually a nut, but a legume, then why are people with nut allergies affected by them?

What do you think?

Hi Oliver,
This is (though phrased somewhat differently) the same question I posted on this forum a while back. If you seek out my version (do a search for nut allergies) you will see I had a few responces. All of mine came in in the first week after posting, then it seemed to dry up. Maybe now you have posted this it will re-ignite this important topic (he said optimistically!).
Come on, people! Allergies are on the increase, so get posting! Let's make an important medical breakthrough- right here- on the Naked Scientists forum!
