Looking for a programme to rename photographs.
« on: 12/02/2009 08:43:26 »
My camera insistes on labeling pictures with a number, example: IMG00001, then IMG00002 and so on. The trouble is if I should delete an image, then the next picture I take is assigned the deleted number. I then have images out of sequence.

To make matters worse, when I transfer the images to a computer, I have to remember to rename them manually as they overright images previously stored!

is there a (free) programme that will allow multiple file name changes, so I can rename a batch of photos all at once?

I think that Don is the person for this. However, it may depend on the camera that you have. I think that our Nikon has the facility to rename photos whilst they are still in the camera. However, we tend to put photos into different folders when we put them onto the PC, so the fact that they have the same file name doesn't matter. It might also be possible to have the date or time as part of the photo file name, so this would make each one unique.

I tried installing Jesus on my Scientific Method and I got a Blue Screen of Eternal Damnation.

That's odd behaviour by your camera.  Even my old Nikon gives each image a unique name, precisely to avoid this problem.  Have you checked the camera settings?  There may be a setting that will change this behaviour.
...And its claws are as big as cups, and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps! And Mrs Doyle was telling me it's got magnets on its tail, so if you're made out of metal it can attach itself to you! And instead of a mouth it's got four arses!

Try that one:
1-4all One for all
or
Bulk Rename Utility

Thank you.

Yep, I have done all of the above, Lee. Thanks anyway.
