A not so Important announcement
« on: 26/02/2009 23:25:48 »
On 27th Feb, 43 years ago Mr and Mrs Make it Lady had a baby. The baby was so ugly they slapped the mother. For weeks they put the nappy on her head and I don't want to tell you where they put the dummy. As years went on the ugly duckling turned into a hideous goose. The Make it Lady will be hiding under a stone tomorrow, trying to forget she is another year older. I will post some hideous pictures if I get time.

No it is Saint Germaine's Day

from http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A523405

"Saint Drogo and Saint Germaine - Patron Saints of the Really Ugly"

St Drogo, who lived in the 12th Century, was so physically repulsive that the sight of him frightened the townspeople. When he was in his 20s, a cell was built for him attached to the church so that he could protect people from his appearance. He remained there for the rest of his life (another 40 years or so), his only contact with people was receiving communion through a small window connecting his cell to the church. His feast day is 16 April.

In comparison, perhaps St Germaine should be considered homely. Although she was apparently still ugly enough, as her unsightliness was reported to be the main reason her parents abandoned her as a young child in the first place. She was a shepherdess in the 16th Century and spent her life isolated from society, sleeping in stables or under stairways. She died at the age of 22 and her feast day is on 15 June. (hereby changed to Feb. 27)

JiminyBlab- Maybe that 1 too, but definitely the day of Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows. It's my friend Gabriel's birthday today and, as he's from a good Irish Catholic family, he was named after the saint whose day it is.

But that is by the by. More important things to attend to...

Thanks all. I have been very busy on my birthday. I was taken out for lunch by a friend and met Fred from school for coffee and milkshake. I then had to go to rehearsals as panto is in two weeks and I still don't know my lines. After that Hubby picked me up and took me to a late night showing of slumdog millionaire. It was a really good movie but had to prod hubby regularly to keep him awake. He'd seen it before on a plane. Got a new camera and money! Today is Freds birthday. He is 12 today. David couldn't think what to get me one year so resorted to getting me up the duff so I would give birth on my birthday. Fortunately he was born at 5am the next day.
