Do you think I will make it TWO MILES on FOOT?

I leave here around 11:30 AM Sunday morning to drive to Ferndale.. a bit south of me.

I have signed up to try to do a 2 Mile WALK/RUN....I will be walking, only with my walker...!

Now... I need tips.. So far all I have made was

1 mile

I had a lot of stops in that stretch and did pretty good ...except and pardon me ..it reaked havok with my bowels....
So I know I must take plenty of water...stay hydrated ... I have my Nitro tabs and also will be accompanied by My son and other patients like myself with various physical problems!

I had to sign a wavier to not hold them responsible if my aneurysms blew or my heart give out etc.. we all did...

Hopefully this will be a good thing.. will have a back up vehicle if I cannot make it..

So baring any physical problems.. The Foggy Bottom walk/run will have a new walker this year.. and hopefully I can do two miles instead of 1.. I am not sure I can make the full two.. but I am going to give it a good go!!

So at noon we meet in front of the Bank pick up our shirts empty bladders etc... LOL and get ready set and go! I actually think that it starts at 1:30 !

I am having trouble with shoes and swelling so have my chair at an incline Andrew and have been there all week trying to beat the circulation.. so far so good.. some swelling but less then last week!

I move at about a snails pace but that's okay.. There will be Doctors there.. and I will be checked along the way... blood pressure etc... So if things get out of hand I have to stand down.. but I really think if I pace myself I can do it! I hope!

Tips PLease...???

I hope you have talked to your doctor about this.
Also I'm not sure that emptying your bladders in front of the bank is a good idea- though, come to think of it, with the credit crunch and all that...

Hee hee hee.... The place should be full of Chemical toilets.. for the participants and people...Lol...

My doctors are aware...and are my sponsors.
I will be removed if a problem arises..I gues the routine will be too take a nitro tablet before onset of race... and that should help with he vessel constriction thing and open things up abit for good blood flow or something to that affect.

Uphill, downhill or flat?

 As I recall..it will be semi flat!  It runs through a loop around this old Town. My yongest son has done the run before ecept he is into the s mile and the ten mile. I am walking the two....
I am graduating from my ow foggy bottom run from computer to the loo in the house..... Have been trying my hand down the gravel road a stretch and at the Bird Santuary.......I have made it 1 time for 1 mile... We will see....It is going to be very difficult... but as the Doctor said.... depending on monitor results during race....I can stand down at any point and still get sponsored for the distance completed and the money will go to charity!

Well The way I am looking at it..Its better then sitting around waiting for death to come get me...I am sick and bored and tired of not being able to do anything so at least walking foward for me I hope will be better then running away....I hope!!
I suspect I won't make t..but it wil be good trying!
The fresh air in my lungs will be good.... and if I am careful... the legs will hold on  and let the lungs and ticker kee up long enough to finish! Lol...

Thanks Fishytails.... I will do just that!  (hank you very much..good advice.... I am sure that my son will do well through all three but he will leave me before I finish as he will run at 2:00 for the 4 and 10 mile... if he still wants to.

It will not be easy.....I am just graduating from two hundred steps a day.... That is not very many steps! It took me months to get to that!

Thanks Ben....and you know..I have searched my racing form and cannot find the charity listed...but it is put on by Six rivers running club and I believe that the proceeds help provide Local school  children  with shoes....kids shoe fund I believe....

The waterfront run was and I believe ths run is the same but am not positive...I know that many schhol groups and families participate .. anyone really.. as it is a race there will be prizes for those racing... I am not going for the race just for the health benefit and charity being served..

I will check Saturday when we pick up our kits..and let you know for sure...

Yeah.. and my health......like I said..can't find the charity listed on my registration sheets, but assume its the same as the waterfront one... for local school children's shoe fund of some sort.

My reward will be making it to the end.... or even the first mile will make me happy!

There will be no meetings of a love interest for me.... LOL

I will however be walking for My Old acquaintance and friend who has been trying to help me get my body back .. fitness wise doing chair exercises and motivational shouldering... training for me and a group of us in need so we can get back onto our feet....I want to lose the walker.. it is cumbersome and annoying. Necessary for any real walking as I am not steady and such.. but hopefully I won"t have to use it for the rest of my time..

Our whole group will be walking for Christie... I just found out today That we were walking for her!!!!YAYYYYYYYYYYY

She is the young girl whom I posted about who had been hit by a car on her bike... by the way that is still in the air.. they are still unsure completely what happened...

Anyway I was told that she will be on the sidelines tomorrow while we walk for her! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

I have an iron on thing For Christie to add to my shirt Tonight before we meet tomorrow!
I am going to take my time be careful and all should be ok....

I DID IT!!!!
 STARTED AT 1:30 I CROSSED THE FINISH LINE AT 2:44 PM, WITH BETTY AND A COUPLE GIRLS FROM THE GROUP. OUR TIME WAS 1 HOUR 14 MINUTES AND SOME ODD SECONDS!

My tail feathers are completely whipped. All the 2 and 4 mile runners were done and the 10 milers were running past us last girls and my son...and Bob..They both decided to walk with me.

I can.Believe how Long it took to walk that 2 miles.... oh my....The last stretch was really painful and my heel was doing something weird... it felt awful like that muscle behind the ankle or tendon that allows the heel to extend when you walk tightened up in extremely sharp pain and made the finish line walk a bit rough..My hips were done.. my nitro helped for the other pain and I was able to finish with one stop to pull a water bottle out.... so I tried to stay hydrated..and even still I was thirsty by the end!
 Anyway I am good,and all went well as I made the full 2 miles!!!  YAYYYYYYYYYYYY FOR US!!!!!

A stupid question. Do you have a swimming pool near by? Thats one of the very best ways I know of to get a really good body workout. It won't strain your joints etc but will give all your muscles good 'definition'. Just a mile a day and you'll keep that Doctor away. (Ok, not a mile then:) And remember that the real secret of anything is to make it into a habit, it's not how far you go (swim), its making it 'habitual' that will count.

Actually I am starting at the gym next Tuesday if I am well. Tuesday and Thursday they have a senior pool aerobics and even though I am not a senior and physical therapy water class I qualify for at a discount price of $10.00 a month which is cheap.. gives me access to the pool , the hot tub, and the sauna.. if I like ... But can't... causes problems ...so the pool and Hot tub is going to become a regular trip for me on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
Physical therapist thinks it will help my hips...and joints and give me some more muscle tone in my legs..

I bought two new swimsuits going to Standford for some water Therapy! I hope I don't look like a duffus wearing them.. I am way to heavy to be in a swim suit!

Don't intend to.. last time I did that was a stupid horrible night!

I hate booze! I am not a drinker have had a drink a couple times in my life.. I do not intend on becoming one either!
