What is the difference between a non-Newtonian liquid and a gel?
« on: 24/03/2009 22:44:03 »
Are all gels non-Newtonian liquids?
Are all non-Newtonian liquids gels?

Thanks,

Gels are mostly liquid, but they behave like solids due to a three-dimensional crosslinked network within the liquid. It is the crosslinks within the fluid that give a gel its structure (hardness) and contribute to stickiness (tack).

A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid whose flow properties are not described by a single constant value of viscosity.

So in conclusion; Some gels are non-Newtonian liquids but some arn't and some non-Newtonian liquids are gels but not all.

Hope this helped ~sHiMmY
