Who am I?

I was born in Syria and attended the Medical College before moving to Cairo to work.

In my time there is turmoil with the Crusades and Mongol invasions.

My disciplines cover a vast range of medical science, astronomy and geology.

I was the first physician to describe the pulmonary circulation, and the capillary and coronary circulations. I am considered he father of circulatory physiology.

I also wrote Islamic theology and just to pass away my spare time, I wrote fiction.

Apparently his name is Ibn al-Nafis, or Ala al-Din Abu al-Hassan Ali ibn Abi-Hazm al-Qurashi al-Dimashqi as Wikipedia shows. [:o]

Well done.

علاء الدين أبو الحسن عليّ بن أبي حزم القرشي الدمشقي‎ 1213 CE 1288 CE. Or ابن النفيس‎, as more commonly known. (Ibn al-Nafis).

The question is do I congratulate the infidel Mr. C4M or the infidel Mr. Wikipedia? Kafir!!!

Who am I?

I was born in Madison County, Georgia, in the early 19th. C. and studied at the University of Pennsylvania where I gained my degree as an MD.

I made a discovery which I first put to use in the mid 19th. C. However, I did not publish a paper on this and was subsequently usurped by some upstart from Massachusetts.

My breakthrough came as a result of my noticing the similarity between my discovery and one by Humphry Davy, 42 years earlier.

The upstart who's questionable claim to have made this discovery 4 years after I had done so, was a dentist.

My cousin was the legendary John Henry Holliday, better known as Doc Holliday.

In 1842 I was the first person to use a chemical with particular properties, to perform an operation on James M. Venable, in Jefferson, Georgia.

Here's the giveaway then.

I was born in Saxony in the early 18th.C. I studied at the University of Wittenberg where I gained an M.D.

I took a great interest in the local mining industry.
