pupil size = smart
« on: 02/07/2009 07:33:55 »
Hello,

I don't know why I always have this thought or feeling and it makes so much sense in my head that the bigger the "real" size of the human's pupil the smarter he/she is.
Today I started testing it. I was looking at ppl's pupil size ( at the office where the light intensity is pretty normal). I know that none of the ones I look at their eyes was smart and all of their pupils are small, but tomorrow I will get to look at my Chemistry professor's eyes if I have the courage to ask him lol .. that guy is very smart!

so am I the only one who thinks about relationship between the pupil's size & intelligence level of a human being? :D
The more I study science the more I believe in God - Albert Einstein

You may be the only one! I have never even had the thought enter  my mind as JnA says pupil size is not constant and everyones are a bit different.

I guess it takes intelligence to be VERY excited about something.

first.. what is 'real size'?  in what light? in what context?

second.. define intelligence, in this sense?

third... pupils aren't anything.. they are holes. Are you saying the bigger the nothing, the better the something?

A person's pupils dilate when they look at someone who is attractive to them.  Sorry, I can't remember the details about the study that found this out - it was quite a few years ago though.

Oh yes, and in low ambient light conditions too, which can be misleading because in general we're not aware that the ambient light level may be low as our pupils dilate to compensate [:)]

...And its claws are as big as cups, and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps! And Mrs Doyle was telling me it's got magnets on its tail, so if you're made out of metal it can attach itself to you! And instead of a mouth it's got four arses!

If your professors pupils are huge, I suggest they go on a diet. It could be rather disconcerting for any professor to have to lecture a bunch of overweight pupils.
If brains were made of dynamite, I wouldn't have enough to blow my nose.

At dead of night when I'm asleep, it's dark and I'm relaxed. That's as big as my pupils get. I find it hard to believe that I'm at my brightest when I'm unconsious.

Some "street" drugs cause dilated pupils ...

Quote
Mydriasis is an excessive dilation of the pupil due to disease, trauma or the use of drugs. Normally, the pupil dilates in the dark and constricts in the light to improve vividity at night and to protect the retina from sunlight damage during the day. A mydriatic pupil will remain excessively large even in a bright environment and is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "blown pupil".

Gregorian,

Looks like you were right :)

Go to Science Direct website and search 'pupil size and intelligence' a new study just came out...
