Where can I buy crude oil?
« on: 31/07/2009 19:06:39 »
I want it for my classroom. You know, to show the kids the stuff that makes modern life possible. The stuff that contains such incredible amounts of energy. Who sells it? I cannot find a source for really small amounts.

An email to Exxon, BP, or the like may be fruitful.
Tell them you want it for classroom education and they may respond.
Worth the shot.

I agree with AllenG.  They may even send you several different grades so that you can see the difference between light and heavy crudes.
...And its claws are as big as cups, and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps! And Mrs Doyle was telling me it's got magnets on its tail, so if you're made out of metal it can attach itself to you! And instead of a mouth it's got four arses!

You could always cheat and mix some tar, some diesel, some paraffin and some petrol together . . . .

We've all done worse, on occasions. Tell 'em it's a synthetic crude oil, which would be the truth.

I think most School Lab suppliers offer 'crude oil' but I wouldn't mind betting it was made as I just suggested.

PS it may be safer to leave out the petrol (or use just a drop) in the recipe!

You forgot engine (sump) oil and a soupçon of WD-40 in your recipe.

And look what I found when I added the word "sample" in my searches:

Bit expensive for the amount, but it is a start.

I'm sure you could always find a crude oil salesman.

(Psst! Wanna buy some dirty oil then?? Wink wink. Nudge nudge.)

Just watch the news....
A few years ago...  Exxon provided as much crude as you could pick up in Alaska.
BP provided plenty in Louisiana.
You can head to New Zealand to claim some heavy fuel oil!!!
