Why do people have names?
« on: 27/11/2009 23:19:11 »
It's so irritating to know there are hundreds of Smiths or Jones around. Why not have a number instead? You can't go wrong if you are known as number 65,999,999

The notion of being numbered is repulsive to most individuals and I happen to be one of the majority.

Do you know how many years it would take me to memorize that number?

I think its quicker and easier to say 'Fred' than 7965a/9865g/5747y78.23, don't you? Also a whole lot easier to remember!

"I am not a number.  I am a free man" - No. 6
...And its claws are as big as cups, and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps! And Mrs Doyle was telling me it's got magnets on its tail, so if you're made out of metal it can attach itself to you! And instead of a mouth it's got four arses!

"I am not a number.  I am a free man" - No. 6

It's recently been remade, (apparently with bigger balloons) ...

It'll be interesting to see how good it is.  It made a huge impression on me (aged 10) when it was first broadcast, and still remains a great influence.

You won't forget that number in a hurry if it's someone elses bank account, you've also got the password, and you are about to defraud them of some money online

Q.Why do people have names?

Same reason as dolphins ...

Quote
Dolphins ‘know each other’s names’

Dolphins may be closer to humans than previously realised, with new research showing they communicate by whistling out their own “names”.

The evidence suggests dolphins share the human ability to recognise themselves and other members of the same species as individuals with separate identities.

Names were invented by the makers of telephone directories to make them more interesting.
